@denikeoyetunde Are we hoping for a better system ? Yes. Health Insurance, Access to free quality respite care, Access to free therapies and inclusive education to mention a few.

At the end of the day, it's a collective responsibility to ensure the society is more inclusive for PWDs.

My son is a registered person with a disability in Lagos, under the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA). The Lagos State Governor has been incredibly supportive of the community.

Paying medical bills, empowering families, skills acquisition programmes, providing wheelchairs ,supporting homes for people with disabilities etc.

Look up LASODA and see the amazing work that has been done under the leadership of the ministry @denikeoyetunde .

@Obee_007 Don’t mind them. I wonder why the outrage isn’t about making society more inclusive, less discriminatory, with adequate resources to alleviate the struggles of families of people with disabilities.

Let them go to the child and adolescent mental health hospital and see.

Yes it’s so unfortunate. It’s super easy for a fetus to become hypoxic during labor that’s why we have immediate interventions to resolve them like turning the moms to the side, giving iv fluid bolus, giving mom oxygen, emergency c/s. We usually connect continuous fetal monitoring soon as mom enters the unit. I’ve spoken on how dangerous it is to deliver babies without continuous monitoring cos you don’t even know how baby is tolerating labor(a lot of babies don’t tolerate labor). Giving birth blindly with mom and baby coming out ok is by the grace of God.

Cerebral palsy isn’t something you detect in an anomaly scan. It’s something that happens to a baby during delivery when there’s oxygen deprivation or trauma.

So having 3 cerebral palsy babies is as a result of labor and delivery neglect. I understand the average Nigerian is not hip to these things but if you deliver at one hospital and your child has CP, don’t have your next baby there.

I remember some of these concerns were raised recently and parents/ primary care givers of persons with a disability were asked and the perspectives as expected were varying .

As a mom to a child with a Disability in Nigeria I know how deeply sensitive this topic is.

Again, this conversation is nuanced, and there isn't a clean answer to most of the questions raised. At the end of the day people are allowed to make their choices.
