Trying thread again:
1/I met Macon Hawkins fourteen years ago today. You may not have heard of him but he made international headlines on March 2, 2006.
Our lives intersected briefly during what I imagine was one of the lower points in his life.
Wonderful to meet journalists participating in an IMF-sponsored & @TRF facilitated media training in Santiago, Chile on the eve of #WorldPressFreedomDay. We discussed issues facing their countries and how the IMF can help.
Great to speak to @pulso_tw while I was in Santiago. Read my interview where I discuss how Chile’s economy needs to grow faster to close the gap to advanced economies and its capacity to do so. https://t.co/u2xcQDWasM
.@CompassCoffeeDC's "next order of raw materials for ... is expected to take 12 weeks — twice the usual time,” as a result of detours following the Key Bridge collapse.
That significantly raises transport costs, and could mean higher consumer prices. https://t.co/nURRyzvlUU
Yesterday was a proud day for me and the entire team at the @TonyElumeluFDN and @Heirs_Holdings. @HarvardHBS launched its case study on the work of TEF, documenting our 14 years of impact, across all 54 countries in Africa.
Titled "The Tony Elumelu Foundation:
Democratising Luck Across Africa", the case study was led by HBS Professor, Paul Gompers, and was taught in class today for the first time, to a select group of students at HBS.

This working paper finds that Brady-style mechanisms could be useful to deliver haircuts, faster growth, & enhanced market access for distressed sovereigns. To be most effective, they should be accompanied by creditor coordination & willingness for reform. https://t.co/fAbnCW9cDH
Great paper. Merits reflection.
Brady dealt w private creditors. But many issues now involve official creditors.
Paper well highlights need for deep debt relief to lift overhangs. Is there more interest now in pushing deals over finish line w recalcitrant 🇨🇳 or deep relief?
Today, the HIPC Completion Point approved by the IMF and @WorldBank provides $4.5 billion in debt relief to Somalia 🇸🇴. This decision will facilitate access to additional critical financial resources that will help the country strengthen its economy.
