Met with H.E. @MeneWamkele, Secretary-General, AfCFTA, in Diani, Kwale County, this morning for a crucial technical discussion on the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII). H.E Mene and I spoke of the goal of crafting a bankable roadmap for green industrial growth.
The development of net-zero industrial parks that aim to run on renewables and green hydrogen, supporting low-carbon manufacturing and innovation at scale, is also important. The visit offered useful insights into what integrated approaches to decarbonisation can look like.
A Kenyan delegation toured Jinko Solar in Shanghai, China today. Talks explored cutting-edge solar tech and potential collaborations to boost renewable energy efforts back home. Supercharged for the future of clean energy and the opportunities this partnership could bring!
A team from Kenya is in China to explore opportunities in green energy and industrialisation. At the Envision Group in Shanghai, the team explored renewable energy solutions, including wind, solar, and smart grids. Exciting discussions on Africa’s renewable energy potential.

Met with representatives from @TencentGlobal, a leading technology company investing in cutting-edge climate technologies such as Direct Air Capture, Long Duration Storage, and Green Hydrogen through its CarbonX Initiative. Tencent is supporting start-ups with $2-3M USD per pilot and demonstration project which is a significant boost for these nascent industries.
It's encouraging to see increased investor focus on transformative sectors that will drive Kenya's economic growth and create sustainable green jobs for our rapidly expanding youth workforce. We look forward to partnering with Tencent to advance climate and development opportunities and attract critical investments, including for the Africa Green Industrialization Initiative.
As Kenya takes over the role of the chair of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), I extend my thanks to all our partners who have continuously supported Africa’s renewed development agenda articulated in the Nairobi Declaration, a shift from victim to climate leadership. Our goal is to drive economic transformation in harmony with our climatic realities.
A lot of work lies ahead as we prepare for #COP29 in Baku. I am fully committed to working collaboratively and inclusively to shape Africa’s negotiation stances using African-led data, insights, and ideas to ensure robust representation and participation of Africa at COP29.
Our approach must recognize Africa’s vast potential: a growing workforce, ample land and natural resources, and immense opportunities for renewable energy generation to achieve energy security and green industrialization. This unique combination positions us to accelerate global decarbonization and lead the race to net zero and beyond.
Each of us has a critical role to play! Achieving climate-positive growth demands an integrated approach. Let’s collaborate, learn from each other, and get to work.
Get in touch to discuss how we can advance Africa’s climate leadership.
