Ever want to know what ADHD is like??
After working 12 hours I finally was able to start studying for my graduate school statistics test that is due at midnight (6 hrs away). 🧵/3
@bunsenbernerbmd BUT I didn’t know it was the northern lights and I literally thought the world was ending. I had to pull my car over to have a panic attack. Then I vaguely recalled something about the northern lights and that was when I realized they were an actual real thing.
@bunsenbernerbmd Back in the mid 90s when I was 16 yrs old and driving to a friends house one night down a dark dirt road in my rural northern MN town the sky suddenly turned this same intense green it was the most surreal experience I’ve ever had. BUT as a clueless teenager
This article is about the reports that Ritalin production has increased 5x over the last 5 yrs which is now fueling a debate around if ADHD is being over diagnosed.
The article is from 1996
Nearly 30 yrs later the myth of over diagnosis lives on.
One of my hobbies when I’m bored is to look through old medical journals. I didn’t realize back in the 1970s they used the diagnostic terms “minimal brain damage” or “minimal brain dysfunction” to group conditions like ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia.
@AdultingADHD Procrastination!! Today I need to complete a required training course for work I’ve procrastinated for 2mo. But my brain decided first we needed to relearn linear algebra (for absolutely no reason)….that was 12 hrs ago and I haven’t yet started the required training for work.
@HowtoADHD When I was kid I came home from school and found an injured bird on our doorstep that I wanted my mom to help so I put it in my lunch box but by the time I took the 5 steps into my house I already forgot about the bird until the next morning I heard my mom in the kitchen scream.
Gordy accomplished so many Firsts this week. He did his first overnight at boarding, he went on a walk at a big busy park, stayed home alone 3x while my husband and I ran errands together for first time since April. He’s coming a long way with managing his anxiety!!
Lots of great memories of First Avenue in Minneapolis, where I played my first regional show at the venue’s smaller room, The 7th Street Entry, on a freezing cold February night in 1985. I’m back there tonight and due onstage at 8.30pm
@StructuredSucc I’m very thankful despite how much it annoys my husband for 25 yrs now he is seems to always closes the cabinet doors or turns off the lights in rooms or puts things away that I left out and never complains about it.
@SNeurotypicals YES! In my job as a data analysts part of my quality control is to check for bias. But outside work when I use my same pattern recognition skills I don’t have any “quality control” process to check my bias. This can lead to catastrophizing.

It’s been 4 mo with Gordy. He has made so much progress in many areas. But we are not making as much progress on his separation anxiety. Our goal is for him to be ok home alone for 4 hours by end of Sept, we have some work to do over next 4 weeks.
I truly don’t think he’d choose that language if he were more informed and understood how hurtful and harmful they are. I hope he educates himself so he can decide in the future if he wants to continue using that language.
As someone with Dyspraxia growing up in the 1980s words like spastic or spaz were names I was often called. So was very disappointed today when I heard a notable celebrity on a popular podcast still use those words in a derogatory way.
@historyrock_ It’s missing some of the best female lead singers Ann Wilson, Tina Turner, Ronnie Spector, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith. Chrissie Hynde. Also missing McCartney, & Tom Petty
