To my fellow white educators: a reminder to ourselves that fighting anti-Blackness requires DAILY work. Work that isn't flashy, that isn't instagram worthy- it's speaking out against racist comments from colleagues & relatives, it's amplifying the work of Black educators & 1/2
UPDATED 41.18 ANALYSIS 1/1/21-9/15/23

In July 2021, the City amended 41.18 in an attempt to comply w/ Martin v. Boise (prohibits cities from enforcing anti-camping laws w/o enough shelter beds).
41.18 ARRESTS
-2021: 568
-2022: 853
-2023 (thru 9/15): 1582
Meanwhile 5+ people die on the streets of LA every day. What is safety to you? To me, it's tenant protections, public housing, an end to landlord greed.. you know, like literal safety nets so people don't have to resort to stealing to survive in this rent-burdened city.
SAG going on strike. Writers already on strike. Hotel workers in LA already on strike. UPS likely going on strike at the end of the month.
Time to fuck shit up. #HotLaborSummer
This absurd and cruel operation was called off. LAPD confirms they planned on arresting unhoused people during a sweep. They are admitting they were going to snatch people up and steal their few belongings. All for the crime of being poor in public.
Finally! Someone is paying attention to these anti-unhoused motions that have been rubber-stamped by City Council since '08. @cd1losangeles is the first to call for any oversight of this law (80.69.4). Learn more about the history here: https://t.co/vJ7CnRynDW
Lesbian, gay, and bisexual people have a (collective) incarceration rate 3x as high as that of straight people. Why?
There are several answers, but one has to do with their experiences as youth. /1 #PrideMonth
Father Andy needs some help making ends meet. He provides a ton of supplies and support to other unhoused folks in the neighborhood, but it's getting hard with a broken-down car and not enough food. Any amount you can pitch in is much appreciated. https://t.co/33k8m5v2qH
Paul Koretz made Jasmine & Venice a 41.18 zone in June 2022, along with 5 other encampments. Out of all 5 of encampments, 3 people were put into shelter. @CD5LosAngeles choice to enforce this area when people have NO OFFERS OF SHELTER is a continuation of Koretz's bad policies.
Ndindi, an organizer with Palms Unhoused Mutual Aid, says they worked to get residents more time, and says that despite the council office pushing back on what to call this, this is indeed a sweep.
TW: Lynching
The lynching of Jordan Neely is what happens when you blame every violent thing that happens in this country on mental illness because while it excuses violent behavior from white people, it criminalizes mental illness in Black people.
The man who choked him
🚨PEOPLES BUDGET LA🚨
It’s that time of the year!! We need you to fill the #PeoplesBudgetLA survey and let us know what you think the city should be investing in.
Fill out the survey here: https://t.co/dwZ8vQ6gku
Take action and demand that the board discontinue contracts with law enforcement to reduce waste on redundant and harmful police patrol and fund approaches that actually keep commuters safe.

@MayorOfLA Moving unhoused folks across the city w/o trauma-informed care, wraparound services & FOOD is extremely cruel #insidestarving. @CD5LosAngeles let's be a district that prioritizes providing our unhoused neighbors w/ the care & permanent housing they deserve!
650k tenants in L.A. will lose just cause eviction protections on February 1st, meaning landlords can evict for any reason. 226k households are behind on rent - the main driver of evictions. Los Angeles is lifting protections that prevented a huge surge in homelessness
What’s expected from teachers right now is not realistic. They can’t both teach curriculum & also single handedly emotionally recover the children of this nation after/through the many traumas they are living.
It’s a ridiculous expectation please stop asking them to do this.
