Today we continued our discussion about residential schools and the generational impact they have had on Indigenous communities. These are phrases our Grade 1 students wanted to share to ensure something like this never occurs again. #OrangeShirtDay@tdsb
Today for #Orangeshirtday, we created backpacks filled with things that are special to us. We discussed how we would feel to have our backpack & its contents taken away. We related it back to the FNMI children who had had their culture stripped from them in residential schools.
This week, we realized that the #CNTower is REALLY tall, even taller than our apartments! As a class, we will be working on building our #Toronto skyline using #recyclable materials! Today, we worked on creating a plan like #architects! Some of us even labelled our plans! @tdsb
In Room 101, we love process art! It allows our artists’ unique ideas to shine through. These are our Winter paintings. Some are of wind blowing, some are snowmen, some are a winter blizzard and some are abstract! Each is different and we think that’s really special! @tdsb
Room 101 was busy at our #writingcentre this morning! We did some writing about our snowmen pictures! Some of our snowmen live in beautiful and magical worlds where the snow is purple!! @TDSB_IRC@tdsb
Today, we used #playdough snow and animals to create animal tracks! Room 101 chose an animal to walk along the #snow, and then tried to skip count how many footsteps they made. We used 10 frames to count by placing rocks for every footstep! @tdsb@TDSB_IRC
Today, 101 was busy exploring the concept of measurement! We built tall towers, long snakes and even measured our shoes using snap cubes! #Measurement#mathiseverywhere@tdsb@TDSB_IRC
At our #writingcenter, we decided if we would rather hibernate like a brown bear or stay awake like a polar bear! We had some good #inquiry questions about camouflaging in the winter as well! @TDSB_IRC@tdsb
Today, Room 101 created structures! We used this time to talk about what three dimensional shapes they could find! We made sure to call them by their names, too! Some friends were able to find shapes like a square based pyramid and a cube! #geometry@TDSB_IRC
Today we painted yarn, pressed it between our folded paper and then pulled the yarn out to reveal interesting symmetrical pictures! We noticed how symmetry and nature are connected as many of our artworks resembled butterflies! #symmetry#mathtalks@TDSB_IRC@tdsb
