Hi... Norwegian here.
When a woman finds out she’s pregnant, here’s what happens:
She calls her GP or midwife.
Appointment within a week.
7 check-ups across the pregnancy.
Two ultrasounds included.
All antenatal care is 100% free.
The birth itself is also free.
After the birth: A year of paid leave.
Then daycare at $124/month.
No insurance.
No denied claims.
No bill.
Just a system that says: we’ve got you..
A 17 year old girl from a low income background in Thailand is not a sex “worker” she’s a victim of prostitution and economic exploitation. Full stop. Rural to city trafficking pipeline often targets girls as young as 13–15. This middle aged Australian man murdered a child.
This is why I hate staying with my husband’s family. They’re the kind of people who eat one meal a day. I need regular sustenance or I perish.
I still remember one “vacation” when I cried while eating a plain can of tuna in the guest room.
I had come undone from too few calories and too much family time.
This is the best articulation of Pauline Hanson that I’ve heard. Hanson “appeals to the ‘lesser’ in Australians”, observes Vanstone. “When someone appeals to the ‘better you’….don’t you feel better?”. “She [Hanson] says ‘be your worst, and I’ll be with you’.” #auspol
@hy_wemmy One of my grandmothers had six children in 10 years and died of TB; the other married a man who developed schizophrenia and nearly killed her and her kids before he was incarcerated for the rest of his life. Neither woman had contraception or financial freedom but, yeah, cakes!
Found out my Swiss ancestors migrated from Tramelan in Switzerland to Cradock, South Australia, because they believed that if you farm land it rains more. "Rain follows the plow." I think you can tell how well that went for them by looking at the Church they used to go to
How come all the NIMBY weirdos who never shut up about wind turbines 5km off the coast have nothing to say about these gargantuan noisy data centres that are springing up in the middle of suburbs, contaminating water, destroying liveability and property prices? It's weird.
