Thursday Thoughts- people do not have a “broken language”… let’s try saying they are “developing language”. Being #multilingual is an asset, let’s make people believe that 😊@emilyfranESL #wordsmatter#D25ML
Today we were not tigers…we were Dalmatians! We had a couple of Cruellas, a dog catcher, Cruella’s henchmen Jasper and Horace, and almost 101 Dalmatians. (Check out the newest little dalmation, Mrs, Fontaine’s new baby, Jaxon) #NEMStigers#101NEMSdalmatians@BristolCTSchool
She started by asking us to greet one another in Zulu, a southern Bantu language, by saying two common greeting exchanges: "Sikhona" (I am here) and "Sawubona" (I see you), which emphasizes the human need to be SEEN and HEARD as our true selves. How beautiful and important!!
So fantastic to have our EL families at school tonight. Tips of the day: Read every day and Keep speaking your Language(s)! Awesome night making connections with families! #NEMStigers 🌎 🐅 💪 @MsM_NEMS@LCovino@BristolCTSchool @nemslibrary
Hey teachers,
After a biased comment is made and you missed it (for whatever reason). Don't ever be afraid to go back. Bring the convo back to the moment. Model for Ss what it's like to make time to stand up to bias. It's never too late.
And that's a wrap! 🎬 Today was the last day of our AVID Excel Summer Bridge Program. Mrs. Dugan and I are so proud of the Emergent Bilinguals who participated!
Here are just a couple examples of the outstanding work our students came up with!

I feel this article by @ZinnEdProject is a great start in the rethinking of #gringodemayo activities #langchat
I beg of you, please don’t use this instance to further stereotype and dehumanize Mexican and Xicanx people. Enough of gringüería already

Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King. #MLK
