Missed Mrs. Kane's smooch, but here is Mrs. Deacon kissing Leia the pig to celebrate our school success for the reading challenge! Thanks to the Pickard family for bringing Leia for a visit!
We had a visitor at Shaker Lane School the other day! Thanks to my co-leader of the school-wide reading challenge, Mrs. Koob, we got a visit from Leia the pig! Because kids reached our goal of reading 200 hours, Mrs. Kane AND Mrs. Deacon kissed the pig!
The 776 hours of reading paws landed here on Leia the pig!
@michelle_mkane will be smooching her this week during a school-wide celebration!

WOW! For our 1st ever Shaker Lane School reading challenge, students read 776 hours! The result? As promised, Principal Kane will in fact kiss a pig on Tuesday! Thanks to Sarah Koob for kicking this off with me and @michelle_mkane and all for their support! #shakeypride@kbstcl
Take a look at that again. Students NEED those foundational skills like phonemic awareness, rhyming and syllables. If they are compensating and guessing at words, comprehension will fall apart at some point. Thanks to the Dyslexia Classroom on IG.

Quite possibly the saddest thing I've ever seen in my classroom. This is not how I teach. This is not a room that says "welcome, let's have fun learning!" This is not going be easy.
