@luphumlongcayis Yep. My niece visited me recently from PE, she’s in grade 12 and appeared ill informed on potential career paths and tertiary education. We had a long talk and it was amazing how her perspective was ignited after just that one conversation.
@CampherDarren It’s not hard to believe or accept that he doesn’t know the document contains that detail or that it’s available on their website. It’s easy to mislead Mr Mashaba unfortunately.
@luphumlongcayis This is my observation too and I agree.
My husband and I definitely share the nurturing role. For example: our child prefers my husband when he’s feeling ill, me when he’s feeling a negative emotion. Lunchboxes must only be prepared by dad (there is a special connection therein)
@geordinhl arrogance and ignorance is on full display in this debate on @eNCA . Your answer to crime CANNOT just be policing when you are facing social issues in City of CPT!
To those of us with tons of relatives and friends who are unemployed and have been unemployed for years. That random R150 or R200 eWallet to them goes a long way. You don’t have to wait for people to ask for help when you are fully aware of their financial challenges. Asking for financial help is degrading and strips one’s dignity. Let us spare those we know from that shame by choosing to be proactive, remembering our role as a community that cares is to protect and guard each other’s dignities at all times. Let us cultivate a culture of thoughtfulness and kindness. May God bless us all and may the universe be kind to us.
PS. To those in need. Please don’t form habits out of these random acts of generosity and develop patterns that lead to EXPECTATIONS and ENTITLEMENT . Most black people are pulling hard even the ones you assume to be doing well.
@Blackieswart_@helenzille I agree with all this including the unpalatable part.
Strangely, I’m not hearing political representatives mentioning these basic things that needs urgent fixing in Jhb.
Jhb has many problems especially around infrastructure however it is filthy and unkept, first and foremost.
@MsNtuli I 100% agree with this!
Dear Parents, your child must be able to read when they start grade 1. Do this, and even only this, and you’d give your child a head start. It sets the tone for the entire foundation phase.
One of the causes of what I call the “parenting crisis”. Adults who will become or are parents lacking basic self awareness all while being deficient in accountability.
Here is what those who condone a culture of intimidation and violence fail to understand. Once society accepts violence as the arbiter of disputes, it becomes the answer to everything. We may not know the circumstances that led to the murder of the Boxer supermarket employees. Whatever tensions may have existed, no grievance justifies murder. The mixed reactions, with some celebrating the unfortunate deaths speaks volume about how desensitised we are becoming about gruesome murders. People’s hearts are getting hardened. If we continue to condone violent behaviour, we are guaranteed to witness more of such tragedies.
Children learn what they live and societies become what they repeatedly see and tolerate. When men and women roam the streets carrying sjamboks and beating others, while people applaud or look away, brutality becomes normalised. What are we teaching children about resolving conflict when adults use violence to impose their will? The flames of violence and hate are resilient and extremely difficult to extinguish. Let us refrain from this barbarism and desist from condoning violence, no matter the circumstances.
Drove through many parts of Jhb today. What an eyesore! Jhb is, above everything else, so filthy and unkept. It’s embarrassing!
Please cut the grass and weeds, clean and paint the roads, pick up the litter. Please!
