Teachers, I beg you. Resist the temptation to bash teachers who feel differently than you about returning in-person this fall. Teachers bashing teachers does nothing to uplift our profession; this job is way too hard to assume any teacher doesnβt care about students.
Thank you so much #AltEdChat and @jillian_damon for this awesome opportunity to moderate this chat. I can now check this off my bucket list! Until next time!
@hackmylearning A3: As a second grade teacher it begins with relationships and the classroom community. Read alouds can be a great resource to help start & guide conversations. Relevant class meetings, and having a safe place to have tough conversations. #HackLearning
@hackmylearning A2: I am lucky that my school has a group of educators who meet monthly in a group called "courageous conversations". This is a safe place to have those tough conversations, share advice, feel vulnerable and hold ourselves accountable. #HackLearning
@hackmylearning A2: My go-to is using naive questions with colleagues. When I hear an implicit bias or something that doesn't sit right I ask a question like, "What do you mean by that?" Or "Hmm..can you tell me more about that or why you think that?"
@chrisrockward @hackmylearning Ongoing is key. A group of teachers at my school meet monthly for a "courageous conversations" group. It's been a great place to really do some soul searching, feel vulnerable, and push yourself to do better.
@chrisrockward @hackmylearning I completely agree! The importance of naive questioning ("What do you mean by that?") and uncomfortable conversations hen you hear something that doesn't sit right.
@tangledinthird A3: I have a wonderful team that I teach with who helps hold me accountable and pushes me to help me achieve goals in my classroom. I will lean on them to help push me to continue to cultivate inquiry in my classroom. #AltEdChat
