This evening I spent time doing a project for my teachers that made me feel good! Did I need to? NOPE. Was it a “good use of my time”? Maybe not. Should I have been “working” on a Friday night? No Sir.
Will it be worth it when even 1 teacher or team is grateful? SURE WILL!
The first barrier to learning we are breaking down this year is removing “categories” from our students. No more SPED, AAP, EL’s or Gen Ed. We are all GBW Pandas. Regardless of the supports we need to succeed!
Fun fact: if you tell kids they aren’t allowed to read certain things/books at school, they WILL find a way to get their hands on it and read it. If you leave it on the shelf, chances are they will ignore it…or read it anyways. Regardless, banning books doesn’t work.
Unpopular opinion: planning and pacing guides are SUGGESTED timelines and ways to teach. Teachers are the experts. Trust yourself and teach in a way you know your kids will learn.
So take the time to BUILD THE RELATIONSHIPS. Trust me there is plenty of time for content.
This is the first building I have worked in that has an open door policy starting in August.
Does it make you feel better to get a jump start of setting up your classroom? Awesome, come on in. Get it done and go enjoy the rest of your summer!
@JasonAblin “Before we start, which ingredients do you think might go together in each bowl? Why? Awesome, let’s see if we were right. Here’s how we do it!”
@mr_mattstewart@TheBearFX Agree with ALLLLLL of this! My goal this year is to get the Erb’a of the world to see their own impact and how their work effects others.
Morning Wake Up Thought: how can we, as coaches and leaders, challenge our staff to see the potential of a new school year, while still acknowledging that this profession is hard and not always positive??
@mr_mattstewart@TheBearFX I love this! But I challenge how we work with the “Erba’s” who would rather walk away then believe they are able to do it? AND what do we do with Richie while he is still in butthead mode! Haha
