I am once again here to remind you all that nobody says that kids have to love math before we teach them early numeracy skills. Stop doing that with literacy.
Please don't tell me your teaching methods and materials are culturally relevant, inclusive, or liberatory if they produce illiterate children. Just don't.
We used to have public magnet schools that each had a different emphasis. I went to a science and engineering one. Then they got rid of them and now all schools are everything schools.
“We should start a leadership program.”
No we shouldn’t, we have way too many programs.
The way black women are underrepresented in the fields of educational specialities is almost depressing.
Please let me know where I can find networks of black SLPs, CALTs, and other language interventionists.
Today, a student with severe ADHD told me “You're a gentle parenting kind of teacher. You correct us and then just…forget all about it. I like that we get 2nd chances from you.”
I almost started crying. Because all I want is for children to be treated with dignity and respect.
@teachforever54 We’ve worked very hard to protect her sense of self worth as a learner and celebrate her wins. She’s had many big ones.
She knows she’s smart. But she also knows that other people think that she’s dumb. It’s heartbreaking. I was having a good night and now I’m crying 🥺😭
@teachforever54 She’s mild mannered so speaking up is hard for her. When she did speak up to ask for what she needed, teachers convinced her to “try harder”. All that did was make her not ask for support anymore because she doesn’t think she’ll get it.
