Today we looked at the Oka Crisis in our continuing learning of Indigenous history in Canada. We are always discussing world issues & took it as an opportunity to see what connections could be made with what is happening around the world.
I am so proud of them -- of their understanding and critical thinking when it comes to what's happening around them. Grade 8s get it! They're a smart bunch who will make an impact! @DarcelSeniorPS@TTrowsse
I can't imagine how any of this will be beneficial to student learning. How can in-person students AND online students get the support they need AT THE SAME TIME?! @ETFOPeel#etfo#onted#onlab
Today, our Board provided an update on planning for the 2021-2022 school year.
#YRDSB will be implementing a hybrid model of learning for elementary and secondary schools for 2021-2022.

Today 81 built tin foil boats to show their understanding of density and buoyancy. With just 3 sheets of tin foil and 8 straws, we had a record of 133 marbles! @DarcelSeniorPS@TTrowsse
When they tried it a second time using other materials, like tape & popsicle sticks, several could hold over 250 marbles! (And even some math cubes!)
Let’s talk about educator mental health for a moment. Doing our very best in horrible circumstances and then being told it is the “bare minimum” is not conducive to #wellness. Full stop. If you have a teacher in your life, please send them an encouraging message. We all need it.
One minute @fordnation and @sflecce say they haven't heard from or met with the unions and now they claim to have had 120 meetings with the unions and the unions are "fighting" him.🤔 This plan is a train wreck and they are looking to lay blame.

Caitlin Clark, a spokesperson for Mr. Lecce, said “parents expect educators to return to work in September, knowing that if they are sick, they benefit from the most generous sick leave program in Canada for teachers and education workers.”
.@Sflecce claims that unions instructed members to do the bare minimum during distance learning. Was it before or after they immediately ended all legal strike actions and sanctions even though we still had no contract, just to make sure there we were ready to help in any way.
3 weeks before classes begin and the @fordnation government announces money for upgraded HVAC systems in schools.
When these projects are completed by 2026, Ontario will show the world we stand ready to fight COVID-19.
NEW: Association of Day Care Operators of Ontario says a lot of child care centres are still waiting for funds from previous government announcements back in the spring, b/c they go through municipalities first. "Without these funds, some centres are not able to reopen." #onpoli
Back in May the @fordnation gov’t loaned @PlayOLG $500M to deal with the impacts of COVID, the investment for #Onted to deal with COVID is $309M #Onpoli

@JASS_risewithus@JeanAugustineSS@PeelSchools embarked on a car parade to visit our students homes. If you haven’t participated in such an event, it’s difficult to explain how meaningful it was. For a moment in time we were able to show how much we cared #EmotionalTime#missyou
Just a few of the families we saw today on our car parade! Thanks Mountaineers for showing you terrific school spirit! 💙🏔💙 Today was a good day! @PeelSchools@mccutcheonpeel
