An open-question: Should we avoid the term “background’ knowledge?
This assumes that children must rely on experiences they either have had (or not).
Wouldn’t it be more equitable to say 'building knowledge’? This assumes a shared experience for all students in your class.
Giving pupils practice which replicates the test, is LESS effective than varying the conditions of practice.
That's right, coaching to the test does not develop long term learning. How are you making using of the Bjork's research on desirable difficulties in your teaching?
