Language matters.
It’s reflective of our attitudes at first and drives our attitudes when used intentionally.
How does your language emphasize the value and humanity of others?

Students who have IEPs aren’t “special education students.” They are general education students who receive special education supports. All students can benefit from the expertise of special educators through collaborative universal design for learning. #EdChat#udl
As I noted yesterday, the “unexpected” nature of reading struggles is definitive in who is diagnosed with dyslexia. We should sit w/the tension of who we *expect* to struggle & how often that struggle is then pathologized & punished.
Happy Dyslexia Awareness Month! The more we all learn about Dyslexia, the fewer barriers there are to diagnosis, understanding, and intervention. #sayDyslexia
Special Education Teachers, how do you handle tests from the general education classroom? By the end of every Friday, my students and I are overwhelmed and frustrated. #spedchat#AlEdchat#TeacherTalk#Teacher2Teacher
Good leaders find people to help out when needed.
Great leaders help out themselves.
@FultondaleElem is lucky to have great leaders @tkbondman, @FelishaJReid, and Nicole Donnell!

This type of experience has so many benefits! Think of all of the vocabulary, background knowledge, and FUN these kids are getting. @kathycskinner and colleagues, I love it!
First grade is wrapping up their human body unit, and these kiddos are pumped up! What a great group of surgeons. These kiddos are lucky to have such awesome teachers. #imagine@FultondaleElem@JEFCOED
I looped to the next grade level with my special education students, and I recommend it.
🍎I already have relationships with my students and their families.
🍎I knew right where we left off last year, so we can continue on through the same curriculum.
Sometimes… kids are just trying to make it through their day. Teachers need to understand this.

Outstanding educators come from all different backgrounds & there’s evidence that exposure to educators who share students’ diverse backgrounds & experiences can have powerful effects.
Congratulations to @SamfordEd, the first undergraduate program in the nation accredited by IMSLEC! Leading a task force with experts @ARI_TMorgan, @coreygant14, @SandyRitchey, @MrStephenWolfe, and @mrsgricesclass as part of the process was inspiring.

I teach upper elementary and need to do some whole group lessons on multisyllabic words using the 6 vowel types.
Any ideas or recommendations?
We don’t have a curriculum for this.
I’m looking at WV phonics but not sure what I think yet.

Executive Function skills are prerequisite to academic learning. If some students aren’t developing these skills at the expected rate, we have to teach them.
