Happy birthday, @BarackObama! 65 never looked better. Every day, you make me a better person, and I’m thankful for all the ways you show up for our family and our country. Love you. ❤️
Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Before she became the voice we celebrate, Dr. Maya Angelou was a young single mother learning life in real time.
In "Gather Together in My Name," she writes honestly about survival, risk, and responsibility — reminding us that becoming is rarely graceful, but always truthful.

February is Black History Month! 100 years ago, Carter G. Woodson founded Black History Week. 50 years ago, President Gerald Ford extended it to Black History Month. The contributions, the sacrifices, and the history of Black people in this country should never be forgotten, ignored, or disrespected. Trump is working aggressively to remove the history of slavery and the contributions of Black people from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, other Smithsonian museums, other Federal buildings and websites, and the National Park Service. Trump, you can keep pushing your white supremacist agenda, but that will never wipe out our contributions! We take this month to celebrate our history, memorialize our ancestors, and rejoice in who we are. We will never be forgotten, no matter what you try to do.

On #InternationalDayOfEducation, we honor education as a path to liberation, dignity, and joy — and recommit to equitable access for all.

Renee was one of my students years ago. I held her baby. She was kind and talented, a working class mom who put herself through school despite circumstances that would’ve crumpled the pathetic rich boy politicians who sadistically abetted her murder
God damn them all
This week has been full of heartbreak—from personal loss to national tragedy. In my latest Sunday Paper essay, I reflect on what it means to grieve, to show up, and to keep going when the world feels overwhelming.
If you’ve been feeling it too, I hope you’ll take a moment to read it. We are all family, and our light matters now more than ever. https://t.co/oxL3ZE69V6
On this evening of so much pain and grief, during a season that should be filed with so much love and joy, may we tread lightly. Let us be reminded of the fragility of life, and be grateful for each day, for each moment we can share with those we love, and for the memories we hold dear. We all have the opportunity to share our kindness, our compassion, and our strength with others. Be the light! #sundayeveningreminder
Dr. Anita Gould (56) was last seen leaving her home at Red Bird Ranch around 6:52am on November 10th in San Antonio, Texas. She was known to fly weekly between San Antonio and Atlanta for work, but she has not been seen since that morning. Please share. #MissingPerson
53 years ago this month, Sesame Street debuted the iconic "I Can Remember. "
