Children deserve a safe education.
Children deserve to be loved everyday.
Children deserve the chance to grow up.
Something has got to give. We cannot continue to allow moments like this to pass us by without action. ❤️
Tonight in Uvalde, people from all over the state are waiting at least 30 minutes in line to walk through the memorial outside of Robb Elementary. The mood out here is tough to explain. Far different than seeing it on TV. Extremely somber. Tears. Holding children tighter.
My 5th period even told me that my teaching career is “all downhill from here” because I won’t have a class better than them. 🙄😂 so much for the next 20+ years lol
Despite how tired I am at this point in the year, seeing May around the corner makes my heart twitch. Whether they are first-time students or ones that I have had for 3 years, I’m not ready to say goodbye. Time to hold on for 3 more weeks! 🤍
the villagers: don't go to dracula's castle
jonathan harker: sorry I didn't quite catch that
the villagers: he's evil
jonathan harker: that could mean anything
the villagers: he will kill you
jonathan harker: hmmm. anyway here I go
Late-night thoughts:
This week, my students read a text arguing against the ability for games to build empathy. As we read a couple of paragraphs, I could feel their uncertainty, so I paused. I looked around. I asked a question.
“What does empathy mean, anyway?”
Silence.
I’m grateful for our conversations about empathy, and I hope that as my students move through life, they do so with an open mind and a listening ear. 🤍
No wonder my students struggled to define empathy… they rarely see it.
Empathy is active, not passive. It is present, not hidden. We have to put in the work and be vulnerable enough to show it. If not for ourselves, then for the generations to come. They need it, and so do we.
@ryancscott1981@ShakeUpLearning I’ll have to check this out!!! Anything to ease the feedback process for both myself and my students is definitely worth exploring.
