@EricLDaugh@JustinTrudeau We went to a couple different amusement parks and they were dead. You want to compare apples to apples? Look at March break last year and this year. Numbers WILL be down.
@EricLDaugh@JustinTrudeau 3.3 million in the past YEAR. The boycott started less than about a month ago. The fact that I even have to write speaks volumes for American critical thinking skills. We were in Florida right after the first “pending tariff” announcement because we couldn’t cancel.
Ss had so much fun creating original works of art for their loved ones. They worked so hard on both their projects (so did I) and were so proud of their perseverance through the process of both. Going to miss them all next year! @cedarhollowps
@Titor2035 @MsAndreaMarie_ @Trailrunner22@ONT_Dad A great idea if there is enough for students to learn. I have 7 Chromebooks for 20 students. If I want to teach anything I either have to use 3 different periods or beg, borrow and steal them from other teachers, which is hit and miss because they need them for their own class!
@JBradshaw01 @1t1sAdam @BIvicek Lucky. I’ve had two students this year go on vacation and neither the student nor the parents said anything before they left. I either contact the parents after they’ve been away for a few days to check in or the students in my class tell me. One left for a month! It’s absurd.
@Bobaxelrod1@Kippy_mag_oddi@Teachers__Unite Everyone always “knows teachers” but the reality is, it’s not that great of a profession or the rewards are outweighed if teachers ARE leaving the profession and young teachers ARE NOT wanting to replace them. You’re not making the point you think you are.
@Suepeekay@RaymorePark@GreatBusker@Teachers__Unite Or 3 degrees, w/ a masters? “Evens out over the yrs” justifies living in poverty the 1st 10+ yrs? We pay into our pension. Put away as much of your pay, you would have the same. Class composition is not even remotely the same as it used to be. Continue with your head in the sand
@ej_202020@etfotvvp This is critical to getting and keeping teachers! Barriers to entry are a big problem. Speaking from personal experience, reg 274 wasn’t perfect but I knew my path. It still took 6 yrs to contract. ($30000/yr). W/o my spouse carrying me, no way I would have become a teacher.
More Spatial Sense! Exploring various nets for pyramids and prisms. Experimenting with moving different 2D faces to determine possible nets. This group sure does love challenges! @cedarhollowps
STEM project: exploring strong and stable structures in Canada and the world. Taking a closer look into the shapes that make up buildings and skylines and recreating them using 2D shapes. New activity this year, that will be used for classes to come. So fun! @cedarhollowps
Spatial sense - Ss explored creating combinations of 3, 4 and 5 snap cubes to explore congruency. Ss demonstrated perseverance as they worked through the different combinations, sometimes realizing they created congruent shapes and had to try again. @cedarhollowps
Some of my fav activities for spatial awareness. Paper Bag Princess Keys and Box/No Box ext. Ss used colour tiles to “make” pentominoes by manipulating tiles, then they used them to see if they could create an open box. First visualizing then using paper to check. @cedarhollowps
@Velvetpage@Gercat14@Teachers__Unite So how do children who watch this violence learn. They spend their days waiting for an outburst and hope there is an adult that will get between them and the violent student.
@thismomloves@InspirationsinK What has the gov’t provided for resources, training or anything for implementing those recommendations. Oh right, do research and learn on our own time and then buy all the resources on our own dime. This “new” curriculum is already and has been in FDK classes despite the gov’t.
Today I heard the trashing of a classroom - a traumatic event for staff and students - be minimized as ‘classroom redecoration’ by safe school ‘experts’. This appalling verbiage is a symptom of a system with no connection to the violence happening in classrooms. @Sflecce@OPSBA
One of my favourite activities each year. Halloween fashion show. Each student gets a chance to walk the runway and then table groups have two minutes to write their best descriptive sentence about the costume! Always a hit! @cedarhollowps
We continue to explore growth mindset and resilience in grade 3. Ss were extra proud of their not-so-perfect-ish drawings. During the gallery walk students shared compliments and discussed differences and similarities in their finished products. @cedarhollowps
Our conversations this week centered around empathy and injustice. Ss were able to connect to several texts about the experience of indigenous children victimized by residential schools and explored “putting themselves in their shoes”. @cedarhollowps
Excited about how our first art activity turned out. Ss did a fantastic job capturing their individuality. We have been discussing our similarities and differences as we settle into the school year. @cedarhollowps
