Excited to share my co-authored chapter with Rachel Berman, Dismantling anti-Black racism in Early Childhood and Care in Ontario is now published in Disrupting Anti-Black Racism in Early Childhood Settings. Happy to contribute to this important collection of work!
Leaders must call out what this presentation was: anti-Black racism.
It was harmful to Black students, teachers, families, & #OntEd. The response from @DPCDSBSchools and Minister Calandra, duty-holders legally obligated to fight discrimination, reveal why it will happen again.
All duty-holders need to: ✔️ Take accountability ✔️ Engage with Black voices in a meaningful way ✔️ Commit to anti-Black racism training ✔️ Ensure policies and practices do not continually perpetuate harm We will not be silent when our students are misrepresented.
On April 17, 2026, the Toronto Star reported on a presentation to DPCDSB that framed Black youth as primary “look-fors” in gang activity. This is not only harmful. It is dangerous.
Black students are too often surveilled, misrepresented, and criminalized in spaces meant to educate and protect them. Black students deserve to be seen in their fullness—their brilliance, humanity, and limitless potential.
