Things the recovery industry will not tell you:
1. The drug worked. That is why people use it. Not weakness. Not moral failure.
A neurological event so complete and persuasive that any honest account of addiction has to start there.
The problem is not that the drug fails. The problem is that what it does is unrepeatable, and you will burn your entire life to the ground trying to get back to a place that no longer exists.
2. Shame is not guilt. Guilt says I did something bad. Shame says I am something bad. Guilt is appropriate. Shame is a cell with no windows. Most people use the words interchangeably. That mistake is lethal.
3. You cannot shame someone who has already named the thing you are holding over them. Say it first. Say it in plain light. The weapon drops.
4. Guilt can coexist with self-respect. Shame cannot. You can hold the damage and the dignity at the same time. I know because I live there.
5. Radical honesty does not give you back who you were. It hands you the clean slate of who you always wanted to be. The mask comes off. The cartoon other people drew of you stays on the page.
6. Nobody gets clean on a winning streak.
7. You have to be almost self-delusional in your forgiveness of yourself. (Go watch Chase Hughes)
8. The greatest sin was not the chaos. It was the absence. Being unavailable to the people who needed you.
9. Sustainable recovery starts with one thing: honesty with yourself. If you love an addict and want to help, that is the only door in.
10. I am only an expert on my recovery. Nobody is an expert on anyone else’s.
A producer friend of mine used to cry in frustration saying that a high ranking SABC official, without naming them, asked her for a bribe in order to green light S2 of her show. She didn't fold and her show was canned. Now look.

🧵📺 What these women leave behind is not a clear message. It is an afterimage.
The story was never really about whether they were good or bad. It was about whether we were ready to see them clearly.

The Digital Technologies Department recently released its Draft National Artificial Intelligence Policy, a framework intended to position South Africa as a global leader in AI innovation while ensuring ethical and responsible use. However, a News24 investigation revealed a deep irony: the very document meant to regulate and guide AI in the country appears to have fallen victim to the technology's most notorious flaw - AI hallucination!. News24 journalists, William Brederode and Katharina Moser elaborates.

@SollyMalatsi@ferialhaffajee@CommsZA So many issues with this policy, it’s deeply concerning. Areas of development within the global tech/AI space not accounted for, and will bring about countless challenges if implemented as proposed. Are the fraud and corruption probes within the DCDT complete? Actions taken?
Today, The @CommsZA gazetted South Africa’s Draft National Artificial Intelligence Policy for public comment.
The policy aims to guide responsible AI, protect rights, and unlock innovation and growth.
Getting this right requires input from all stakeholders. Your voice matters in shaping a policy that is practical, inclusive and fit for South Africa’s needs.

THE STOCK FAMILY STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF DJ WARRAS
With indescribable heartbreak, deep sorrow, and overwhelming shock, the Stock family, together with the rest of South Africa, learned yesterday of the tragic and untimely passing of their beloved Warrick “Warras” Stock.
Warrick, a respected South African media personality, activist, and businessman was brutally murdered on the morning of Tuesday, 16 December 2025, in downtown Johannesburg.
The senseless nature of his passing has left his family devastated, broken, and struggling to imagine a world without him.
A devoted son, a loving and proud father, a cherished brother, and uncle Warrick (40) was the heart and anchor of his family.
Affectionately known as DJ Warras, also known as “The Shady Lurker”, he brought light, laughter, and strength into every space he occupied.
His influence and kindness extended far beyond his home, and he was deeply loved by his friends, colleagues, and the wider South African entertainment community.
Warrick leaves behind his three young children, his mother, and his siblings, whose lives have been irrevocably changed by this profound loss.
As the family begins the painful journey of mourning, they humbly ask for privacy, compassion, and understanding during this unimaginably difficult time.
They also respectfully request that the South African Police Service be given the space and support needed to thoroughly investigate this tragic crime, so that justice may be served.
At this time, the family is not in a position to appoint a spokesperson.
They kindly ask that they be kept in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this deep and painful loss.
The Stock family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, messages of support, and condolences received since the news of Warrick’s passing was made public.
Your kindness, compassion, and solidarity have brought moments of comfort during an incredibly dark time.
Details regarding memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
With love, gratitude, and broken hearts,
-The Stock family.
Damn, Warrick! Just like that? On the anniversary of Mulo’s passing, nogal?!? What the actual hell, South Africa?!?
I had a very short stint at YFM during Spliff and Warras’ time back in 2011. This is so fuckin’ surreal 💔
Here in South Africa, we have declared gender-based violence and femicide a national crisis.
We have agreed, among all social partners, that weneed to take extraordinary and concerted action – using every means at our disposal – to end this crisis.
