Sometimes it's hard to see the progress when you're in the middle of the work.
Coming out of a harsh #NorthCarolina winter, we've spent the last few months focused on recovery and preparing the #golfcourse for the season ahead. From sodding damaged areas, applying fertilizer to greens, fairways, and rough, aerifying greens, tees, and fairways, repairing irrigation issues, watering, mowing, topdressing, and countless other details, every task plays a role in helping the #turfgrass recover. Yesterday's Maintenance Tuesday had us mowing and topdressing greens, and it was rewarding to look across the course and see the color finally returning. It's amazing what patience, persistence, and the right cultural practices can accomplish. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance
From the first cut of the morning to the last pass before play, every detail matters. John Deere equipment is designed to give turf professionals the control, reliability and precision they need to maintain championship-level conditions day in and day out.
The crew has been working hard all week handling a full schedule of course maintenance operations.
We’ve been aerating fairways with the Toro 1298s, drill-and-filling greens to relieve compaction and improve surface performance, and verticutting fairways to promote healthier turf and better playability.

Happy Maintenance Tuesday everyone! Today I arrived at the #golfcourse at 4 AM to solid tine the greens while the topdresser, roller, and cup cutter followed behind starting at 6 AM. In today’s video I wanted to give y’all a closer look at the Toro ProCore 648. I’d say this is probably one of my favorite machines to operate. Not only is it easy to handle, but solid tining plays a huge role in helping the greens absorb more water, oxygen, and nutrients while relieving compaction. At the end of the day, healthier greens make my job maintaining them a little easier. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #johndeere #toro
Growing #turf around trees and shrubs can be one of the biggest challenges on a #golfcourse. Those tree and shrub roots compete heavily with the turf for water and nutrients, while the shade limits sunlight and airflow. That’s why you’ll sometimes see the same areas sodded more than once throughout the season. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #golf
🏌️🏆 PGA Championship winner, Aaron Rai on why he uses iron covers: “I grew up in very much a working-class family, and golf has always been a very expensive game. I started from the age of 4 years old, and my dad used to pay for the equipment, pay for my memberships, my entry fees. And it wasn't money that we really had, to be honest, but he'd always buy me the best clubs.
When I was about seven or eight years old, (my dad) bought me a set of Titleist 690 MBs, and they were like 800-1,000 pounds back then, just for a set of clubs for a kid. I cherished them. When we used to go out and practice, he used to clean every single groove afterward with a pin and with baby oil.
Although on the PGA Tour, we get given equipment, and we get given everything that we need, it's more out of principle. The value of not losing perspective of what I have and where I am. The covers are going to stay, I'm sorry."
While we got the #golfcourse ready the past month for the US Open Local Qualifier this past Monday, doesn’t mean our work ends there! Our maintenance day was actually on Wednesday this week instead of Tuesday, and we were busy on the greens again verticutting, mowing, topdressing, rolling, blowing, and cutting cups. It’s been good finally having that little bit of sun that we needed ☀️ to get the turf growing and the sod tacked down. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #johndeere #NorthCarolina
The US Open Local Qualifiers 😍. I just love the hustle and bustle that comes with tournament prep. From detail work to fixing irrigation leaks, we have been grinding to get the #golfcourse ready for Monday despite everything Mother Nature has thrown our way. Proud of the team for continuing to push through and get a little better every day. #gettingbettereveryday #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #usga
Today we hosted the US Open Local Qualifying here at Duke University Golf Club. The week leading up to the event was nonstop as we spent countless hours watering sod, tightening up detail work, weedeating out-of-play areas, pond and creek banks to get the #golfcourse tournament ready. Of course, it wouldn’t be tournament prep without an #irrigation leak popping up somewhere along the way, but thankfully Mother Nature finally showed up and gave us some much needed rain. #johndeere #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance
What a busy week we had on the #golfcourse ! The course was closed Monday–Thursday for some much-needed maintenance. A crew came in and laid sod on tees, collars, and approaches that didn’t quite make it through the winter, while we focused on aerifying tees and fertilizing the entire course with 27-0-0. And of course… it wouldn’t be a full week without a surprise—an irrigation leak on hole 1 decided to make an appearance 🫣. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #toro #johndeere
We’re 3 weeks out from the US Open Local Qualifiers here at #DukeUniversity Golf Club, and it’s all hands on deck. Between plugging out algae and laying sod on the greens, the work doesn’t stop—especially with mowing, cup cutting, and hand watering happening all at once. #golfcourse #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #johndeere
Y’all…we had frost in the rough on a Monday morning 😖. For a minute, we thought Maintenance Tuesday might not happen this week—but sure enough, the #golfcourse greens got the full treatment. 4 AM verticut. 6 AM kickoff: blowing, mowing, topdressing, rolling, hand watering, and cutting fresh cups.
I’ll take a little break from last week’s heat, but I’m definitely looking forward to the days when the Carhartt and sweatshirt can stay in the closet. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #agrimetal #johndeere
