Some believe when we give #students second chances for things like missed work, not being prepared, or not arriving on time, we are enabling them.
I’d argue that we are showing them compassion, #kindness & understanding are quite acceptable responses in #life.
Reading aloud to kids never gets old. I wonder how many millions of people fell in love with reading listening to their teacher/parent/grandparent/librarian/friend/sibling/guardian read to them.
I'm comfortable giving a student who needed 4 attempts to master a skill the same grade as the #student who only needed 1 attempt.
'If' a student learns is more important to me than 'when.'
I’ve been so excited for today ever since we started collecting books a couple weeks ago. Thanks so much to the teachers at @smart_eagles and to everyone who made today possible. #smartholidaybookdrive#flsreads#flspride
I have been so incredibly excited for this since we first started collecting books. The kids were so excited to get their own book that they got to choose! #flsreads#flspride#smartholidaybookdrive
Thanks so much @wqad for coming out yesterday, thanks @JasonReynolds83 for writing a great book that has kids interested and engaged, and thanks to all who have donated to our book drive so far. #Ghost#OneSchoolOneBook

We just assume students know how to Google search ... They don't. They know how to type words into a box but how to do it effectively and to analyze the results. We have to teach them.
Lots of books arriving for our holiday book drive! We’re a bit over halfway there! If you’d like to give a deserving middle schooler a brand new book for Xmas, shop our Wishlist! 🎁📚🎄 https://t.co/132H3nT78W
There’s nothing to lose by giving a #student a second chance.
Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
There’s only the possibility of strengthening a #relationship, demonstrating the power of #empathy, and instilling a glimmer of hopeful recovery.
50 books arrived at our building today for the book drive! How exciting is that?! So far, #TheHateUGive by @angiecthomas and #LongWayDown by @jasonreynolds83 have been the most popular donations.

Our students don't ask for a lot, so we're asking for them. I'll drop the link for the Wishlist below. Books will be delivered directly to the school and distributed the last day before Winter Break. Think about it.
Merry Christmas.

Smart is an urban school with a diverse population. These kids are bright and cheerful and it's an honor to work with them every day. Many of them have also experienced more hardship than I could ever imagine at their age.
