Today I submitted to @TeamHISD Superintendent Miles requesting
request the retention of wraparound specialist positions in the district's budget for the 2024-25 academic year.Β As the State Representative for District 146 in Houston, I have seen firsthand the invaluable impact of wraparound services on students needing additional support to succeed in the educational setting.Β Β Our wraparound specialists play a crucial role in providing some students with essential resources such as school supplies, food, clothing, and mental health services.Β These services are particularly vital for students facing poverty-related challenges, including hunger and homelessness, which unfortunately are prevalent among the student population in District 146. Β Β
I will continue to advocate for the children in our schools needing support. #txlege #HISD
Wraparound specialists are crucial, especially at schools in working class neighborhoods. They make sure kids have clothes, food, and basic necessities so they can go to school and learn. π’
Thinking about the fine arts students that just performed here at the #HISD convocation- I cannot explain the irony that we just sat through; a fine arts performance for a district that now doesnβt value the work of the fine arts teachers that put the kids up on stage.
I agree with @GovAbbott. Thereβs more work to do:
1. TX is 49th in teacher retirement benefits.
2. TX is 42nd in public education funding.
3. TX is 43rd in teacher pay
4. TX is 2nd in school shootings.
