In #HowHS, they mentioned how it should be expected that online instruction takes extra time, but I would like to argue, "Why?" Shouldn't it technically take the same amount of time we would spend prepping and teaching F2F?

@ScheidelAlyssa I totally empathize with that! One of my first video lessons I made took me 3 hours to orchestrate/finalize...and how long did the students view it--for maybe 10 minutes of content. How many watched it?--78% of the students. Feeling good about my efforts π #643Su20wk3
In #HowHS, I was strongly miffed that the myth about having a doctorate was required to teach online was even a myth in the first place! Teaching is teaching, no matter the location of the classroom.

#7BigIdeas called out the elephant in the room--we all know someone (even if it was ourselves) that survived the spring by distributing digital worksheets and packets. Moving forward this year, how do we set ourselves up for sustainable success to avoid this trap?
#HS#643Su20wk3
I like the idea of making students curators of their own learning in #7BigIdeas, but I would argue that if we use this idea repetitively or too much in the same way, won't the students get tired of this delivery system? How do we use it without overusing it? #HS#643Su20wk3
I agree with #RemoteVsOnline that the speed at which we have to shift to ERT is staggering and stressful--this is truly one of the times in our lives where we adapt-or-die, coupled with moments of resignation and acceptance of our own capabilities as we press on.
#HS#643Su20wk3
#RemoteVsOnline assumes that all faculty and staff are interested and committed to transitioning to ERT (and making it better for the coming year), but many teachers are struggling with this shift--is this what they signed up for when they became a teacher?
#HS#643Su20wk3
@gerrits_amber I think these stats support our need as teachers to constantly work to improve our methods and keep up with the curve--we must keep growing with the times :)

@Anthony42333237 I would say that my honors students felt like they spent more time collectively from all their classes in their online learning environment than when they were actually at school... :-/
#643Su20wk2#HS
@Anthony42333237 I worry that students feel like a LMS "saves time" because they find ways to complete work in less amount of time. My question is at what cost to their understanding of a concept did this "time-saver" provide? Was it a benefit or a detriment? #643Su20wk2#HS
@roskelsu I look forward to what the new research and data for 2020 looks like :) I am sure there are more variables to consider than the typical study. #643Su20wk2#HS
@roskelsu I am also fortunate that we have the framework in place to offer support at any level of tech integration. So many schools strive to be "one-to-one" but then don't even consider problems like less than 50% of their student pop having internet access at home. #643Su20wk2#HS
I think many teachers would find relief in adopting online ed services if a duration agreement was in place. That way, even if they didn't have a say in what the school or district adopted, they would have an out if it was deemed ineffective. #StudentPrivacy#HS#643Su20wk2
Is there ever "too much" data on or about a student? Considering the previous articles, what data about a student (or group of students) could be deemed significant or non-significant?
#StudentPrivacy#HS#643Su20wk2
Thank you to all early adapters of ed tech! Without you, we wouldn't have solved the early glitches and improved accessibility! AND helping alert us all to a bigger issue-student privacy. It's interesting how security wasn't considered sooner π€#643Su20wk2#HS#StudentPrivacy
@mdeschryver I also think the tactile component of this kind of communication plays a role--not many people save (or print) their emails, but postcards can be held and saved on the fridge or put into memory boxes for graduation parties :)
When we sent postcards to all of our students during closure, the parent response was overwhelming--the entire household was so touched! The hand-written note felt so personalized and reinforced our connections.
