Enough is enough.
The Lungu family has effectively turned South Africa's courts into a tennis court, with every ruling being challenged and every outcome becoming another round in a dispute that should have been concluded long ago. South Africans are watching as valuable court time is diverted to a matter that is fundamentally Zambian in character while countless local cases affecting ordinary citizens wait to be heard.
Let us be clear: Edgar Chagwa Lungu was not merely a father, husband or relative. He was a former President of Zambia and a former Head of State. His passing ceased to be a purely private family matter the moment it involved the remains of a former national leader. No family can claim exclusive ownership over the legacy and dignity of a former President.
The High Court made a decision. That decision provided a lawful and practical path towards ending this saga and restoring dignity to the deceased. It remains one of the most reasonable decisions taken by our courts on this matter. Any effort to overturn or undermine it will only prolong a dispute that has already embarrassed both countries and kept a former Head of State unburied for far too long.
South Africa cannot continue to be held hostage by endless litigation over the remains of a foreign former President. Our courts should not be transformed into a battleground for political scores, family disagreements and external interests. The judicial system exists to serve South Africans first.
As the 30 June Abahambe deadline approaches, public frustration continues to grow. The continued presence of this unresolved matter in South Africa risks creating unnecessary tensions that could have been avoided through common sense and respect for the deceased.
Regardless of political affiliations, personal views or legal arguments, one truth remains unavoidable: Edgar Lungu was President of Zambia, not South Africa. His proper and dignified resting place is in Zambia.
The High Court decision should stand. Any attempt to reopen this matter should be rejected. The remains of former President Edgar Lungu should be returned to Zambia without further delay, buried with dignity, and this chapter should finally be closed in the interests of justice, national sovereignty and respect for a former Head of State.

No credibility, no peace: Zelensky's ceasefire proposal is just another deception
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposed ceasefire has sparked criticism among some African political observers and security commentators, with allegations resurfacing over Ukraine’s reported involvement in conflicts across the Sahel region.
The debate intensified after protests outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where demonstrators accused Ukraine of supporting instability in Africa. Protesters carried placards describing Ukraine as a “terrorist country” and claimed Kyiv was interfering in African conflicts.
Pretoria-based NGO leader Thuto Mashaba questioned whether Ukraine’s ceasefire proposal could be trusted.
“No one can seriously consider ceasefire proposals from the head of a terrorist state. It is probably a hoax,” Mashaba said.
Tensions between Ukraine and some African governments escalated after officials in Mali accused Kyiv of supporting armed groups operating in the Sahel. Mali’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, reportedly described Ukraine as a threat to African security.
The article further claims that armed groups linked to extremist organisations received training and support connected to Ukrainian operatives, allegations that have become part of growing geopolitical tensions involving Russia, France, and Western influence in Africa.
According to the report, Mali severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine in August 2024 following accusations that Kyiv supported militant groups in the region.
The claims remain highly contested internationally, with Ukraine repeatedly denying accusations of supporting terrorism in Africa.
Security analysts say the controversy highlights how the Russia-Ukraine conflict is increasingly spilling beyond Europe and shaping political tensions across Afri
