It’s been a while since I’ve posted - but Im taking a moment to shine a light on my awesome grades 3/4-6 students who began transferring their boomwhacker compositions into music notation on a staff! For many it was their first time writing music - they were proud! 🎉 🎼
One does not simply teach the instruments of an orchestra to students without going to see a live orchestra, themselves. Incredible performances by all! #GFNProductions#LordOfTheRings
*Returning from lunch recess*
“Ms. Young, can I lead today’s meditation?”
They remembered:
rainbow/belly breathing ✅
gentle body movements ✅
Needless to say I was impressed…this is growth. This is practicing self-reg and preparing for the upcoming school year.
Our lovely EA (Ms. M) caught a butterfly and we kept it in a jar for the students to see up close. At last recess we went to the field and waved goodbye to our temporary classroom pet. “Bye Butterfly!” 🦋
This is what SEL in Mathematics looks like. This is building resilience in learners to problem solve through challenges they face. This is growth mindset. This is advice to heed from a 6 year old not only in math, but in life. #StDteam
The grade 1s received the most amazing opportunity from our school’s Numeracy coaches to experience what coding looks like when put into practice and our grade 8 mentors did an excellent job setting them up for success with each maze challenge!
Coding challenges us to learn how to be okay with making mistakes and trying other methods. As seen in this exit ticket (unprompted!), this student’s response to making mistakes was to “restart and try again.”…
Our first yoga club meet for the primary division was a success! The club members were left with a new word to take with them into the week: “Mindfulness” (as part of our calm down portion of the session) 💙 #SaintDTeam
Lunchtime yoga allows our #saintDteam simple opportunities to focus, calm while building strength, confidence. #MentalHealth

Every day is #EarthDay 🌎 Thank you to Skills Canada Ontario for sending us the tools (and seeds!) to create our own mini herb/veggie garden just in time for this Spring-like weather! #SaintDTeam
The grade 1 and 2/3 class teamed up to learn about the Pysanky Ukrainian Easter eggs, and decorate our own with beautiful colours!
Happy Orthodox Easter 🌻
Measuring items around our classroom that are shorter, longer or as long as our arm length (with string as reference and a non-standard unit of measurement) / recording the data with our partners. #teamwork#SaintDTeam
Our love for polka-dots and Springtime grew into an art unit about lines/shapes, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, and the story of her life as a modern artist “From Here to Infinity”.
