Indian jurisprudence distinguished between games of skill and chance under the Public Gambling Act,1867. Games where skill predominated historically enjoyed constitutional protection allowing them to be operated as legitimate businesses under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.
@Square1Cut But this part of judgement is itself controversial and contrary to many past judgements of sci and multiple HCs as deciding betting gambling only based on money flow into system sidelining the skill vs chance factors is totally illogical and unconstitutional.
Modiji spent the last 12 years on tax payer money forcefully projecting himself as someone who loves children, schooling, education. But when children and the education sector needed him the most, there's deafening silence. Always absent in crisis, present in taking credit.
@jnsayta Age old and worldwide unanimous logical decision/distinction of gambling/betting and skill based activity set aside by this judgement and decides gambling/betting soley based on money flow into system.the worst judgement of sci history. Today people are not fool.
I feel country should avoid retrospective taxes.
For the short term, It may look won, but on the long run, it discourages business entities to put money in the country that had in the past history of retrospective taxes.
What's your take on it?
Go ahead and BAN ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES immediately. 🛑🚫
Absolute, unadulterated hypocrisy. If the Govt and Supreme Court are so righteously obsessed with "public morality" and "saving citizens from vice" that they’ll pass draconian PROGA laws and slap unpayable, retrospective tax nukes to kill Dream11 overnight, why stop there?
Let's see the spine. Alcohol causes fatal liver cirrhosis, domestic violence, and body counts on our roads every single night. Cigarettes are literally packaged, state-taxed cancer that suffocates public health. But oh wait... the government pulls in hundreds of thousands of crores in excise duties from liquor syndicates and tobacco conglomerates, so that "vice" gets a free pass, right?
A tech company builds a data-driven, strategic platform that employs thousands of engineers and pumps sponsorship into Indian sports, and it gets labeled a "gambling menace" and strangled out of existence. Meanwhile, actual toxic poisons are sold on every single street corner because the state likes its cut of the sin tax.
They stand on a fake moral high ground claiming they are "protecting the public from the vice of betting." But let’s say what everyone already knows out loud: plenty of dirty funding from certain politicians, MLAs, and MPs flows straight into untraceable, offshore illegal betting apps operated out of tax havens. By killing transparent, tax-compliant, domestic tech giants that employed thousands of our own people, the state hasn't stopped gambling—they've purposefully funneled millions of Indian users directly into the hands of these illegal, black-market offshore networks
Stop hiding behind the fake moral mask of "protecting the public." You don't care about societal harm; you just care about what you can over-tax and control. If you're going to destroy a sunrise tech ecosystem under the guise of public good, ban the actual killers first, or admit this was just a targeted, revenue-grabbing hit job.
This wasn't a regulatory move to safeguard citizens; it was a devastating revenue-grabbing hit job that deliberately leaves the door wide open for illegal offshore rackets backed by powerful pockets. Absolute circus.

Age old habit of using armed forces as a face saving maneuver to hide govt and official incompetence
Even in matters which have got nothing to do with the forces
They know, next time when such a leak happens..
People won't say a damn because of their respect towards the forces

Question is, can an industry that never earned even ₹25,000cr in a year, pay up 2.5 lakh crores? What good is a fine if it can’t be paid?

There is corruption in all institutions now. About three decades ago there was social stigma attached to it. Now people openly flaunt it. There is no deterrence.
There is no political leader worth emulating today. Corruption has eaten the country hollow.
One singular reason why no policies can be implemented effectively today as even the lowest in hierarchy know that the entire chain is corrupt. Case in point is garbage management and infrastructure development all over the country. Even the national capital is one of the dirtiest cities of the world.
If India has to survive and flourish, one clean up operation for one year has to be undertaken otherwise this termite will finish the country.
Happy that Honourable judges admitted it.

#KhabarYehNahiHai
There is a crisis at the top because of incompetency of persons heading institutions , departments. The best are no longer being appointed . Only the pusillanimous, servile ,mediocre are being appointed.
Results are for all of to see: NEET leak, CBSE, Economic mess etc etc
There is a Secretary , Union of India who insists that minutes of meetings , draft letters, are prepared through AI-Claude, Grox .
His subordinates are fed up as confidential information of the department is being shared on AI.
Clue : Two Secretaries were switched recently . His Minister has recommended onions to fight heat 😀
