Born in Morocco. Raised in Algeria. Left North Africa in 2007, drifted around Europe for 13 years (Spain, France, Italy, Germany and others), failed "asylum" claims, then arrived in the UK illegally by ferry in 2020 and claimed asylum.

In Oct 2023 he stabbed his housemate, a Christian convert, in bed whilst screaming "Allahu Akbar", then walked into the street and stabbed 70-year-old Terence Carney as he took his morning walk, killing the pensioner, Alid said it was "for Gaza." Judge called it a terrorist act. Life sentence, 45-year minimum.

Now, while serving that sentence he's accused of slicing open the head of prison imam Roderic Vassie at HMP Full Sutton and stabbing him five more times after Friday prayers, he's also accused of attacking a female prison officer at HMP Wakefield, breaking her nose. Pleaded not guilty. Trial set for 25 November.

The Maldives has become a secret hub for circumventing Western sanctions on Russia, with hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of restricted goods passing through the country to Moscow, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The scheme operates through Malé’s airport. Local intermediaries help clear cargo arriving from the US, Europe and China before it is reloaded onto Aeroflot flights to Moscow. New shipping documents are issued in Malé, removing references to the original sellers and obscuring the goods’ origins. Cargo in transit typically undergoes only minimal customs checks.

The shipments include aircraft parts, microchips that can be used in missile guidance systems, optical equipment for satellites, and high-strength aerospace components suitable for commercial aircraft, fighter jets and long-range rockets. Some of the goods are ultimately received by Russian companies under sanctions.

The scale of the trade surged after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian trade data collected by Import Genius showed imports from the Maldives jumping from less than $7 million in 2021 to more than $630 million in 2022.

The US and European officials are pressuring the Maldivian government to close the route, according to the WSJ. The Maldives’ customs authorities have limited staff and rely largely on paperwork rather than physical inspections of transit cargo, the newspaper reported.

- striking the radiation confinement structure at the Chornobyl nuclear plant with a drone and etc etc etc

None of all that, apparently, qualifies as “state terrorism.”

“State terrorism,” you see, is when, in response to all of the above, you destroy the aggressor state’s oil industry and issue advance warnings about the dangers of flying through the aggressor state’s airspace in order to avoid civilian casualties.

A priest who survived described it as “the end of the world.”

Men were lined up against their homes and shot. Women were tortured and repeatedly raped. Infants were shot in the back of the head. Fetuses were torn from pregnant women’s wombs.
