There are things our elders taught us that today's generation laughs at, yet they carried families for generations. Not everything is seen with the naked eye. Some lessons are born from experience, prayer, tradition, and wisdom.

1.) Be careful who you go home with after groove.

When your mind is intoxicated, your spiritual discernment is weakened. Not every smile is genuine, and not every person you meet is walking alone. Some people carry heavy spiritual burdens, while others unknowingly carry roaming spirits attached to them. Protect yourself. A single night can open doors that take years to close.

2.) If you are travelling at night and you find someone standing in the middle of the road, use wisdom.

Sadly, not every spirit has been guided home. In many traditions, it is believed that some souls remain where they departed until proper rituals or remembrance have taken place. Pray, ask for guidance, and never allow panic to make decisions for you.

3.) When you buy a house or a car, don't only celebrate cleanse it first.

You do not know the history that came before you. Every place and every object carries a story. Pray over it, cleanse it according to your beliefs, dedicate it to God, and report it to your ancestors. Ask that only peace, protection and blessings may dwell there.

4.) If you experience something you cannot explain spiritually, do not ignore it.
Whether it is repeated encounters, disturbing dreams, or experiences that leave you unsettled, seek guidance from someone you trust within your faith or tradition. Carrying fear and unanswered questions can weigh heavily on the mind and spirit.

5.) If you adopt a child, introduce that child spiritually.
Love makes a family, but in many traditions, welcoming someone into the family also includes introducing them through prayer and remembrance. Let your ancestors know that this child now belongs to your home, and ask for protection, acceptance and guidance.

6.) Do not mistake suffering for strength in a marriage.
Our elders often taught perseverance, but perseverance should never mean losing yourself. If a home has become a place of fear, abuse or constant pain, seek help. A peaceful life has value. No one should feel they must remain in harm's way to prove loyalty.

7.) Even ancestors may need closure.
Not every departure was peaceful. Some left with unanswered questions, pain or unfinished matters. Through prayer, remembrance and appropriate cultural practices, families often seek healing for both the living and those who came before them.

8.) Widowhood carries responsibilities in many traditions.

Many cultures have mourning customs that are meant to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. After the mourning period, cleansing rituals may be performed, and in some traditions certain items are burned or set aside as a symbol of release. These customs differ from family to family, and they should be approached with respect.

9.) Never fight over inheritance (ilifa).
There is no blessing in wealth that is built on division. Families have been torn apart over land, money and property. When greed enters, peace leaves. Resolve these matters with fairness, wisdom and respect, because a divided family struggles to prosper.

10.) Love your family, but guard your spirit.
Not every family member should know every plan, every blessing or every breakthrough. Even our elders said, "Akusikho konke okukhulunywa ekhaya." Some victories are protected by silence. Pray more than you speak. Move with humility, and let your results speak louder than your plans.

May God guide your footsteps, and may your ancestors walk with you in peace, wisdom and protection. Not everything is meant to make you afraid, but everything should remind you to walk with discernment, prayer and respect for both the seen and the unseen.
