🔴 एक मां-बाप अपनी बेटी को पढ़ा-लिखाकर इस काबिल बनाते हैं कि वह अपने पैरों पर खड़ी हो और परिवार का सहारा बने। मैंने भी DU से पत्रकारिता की डिग्री ली और कई मीडिया चैनलों में काम किया। लेकिन जब खबरों से ज्यादा दलाली और चापलूसी को तरजीह मिलती देखी, तो मैंने स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता का रास्ता चुना।

पिछले चार सालों से अपने सीमित संसाधनों के साथ जमीनी पत्रकारिता कर रही हूं। सहारनपुर की मस्जिद के मामले में ग्राउंड रिपोर्टिंग करने पर मेरे खिलाफ FIR दर्ज हुई, लेकिन मैं पीछे नहीं हटी। योगी सरकार ने मेरे खिलाफ मुकदमे दर्ज किए, उन्हें लगा मै मुकदमों से डर जाऊंगी और खामोश हो जाऊंगी लेकिन फिर भी मै हारी नहीं, डरी नहीं। तमाम मुश्किलों के बावजूद मैं जमीनी पत्रकारिता करती रही।

उज्जैन में रिपोर्टिंग करने के लिए भी एक भले इंसान ने आर्थिक सहयोग किया, तब जाकर मैं वहां की ग्राउंड रिपोर्ट कर पाई, क्योंकि अपनी जमा-पूंजी मैं पहले ही इस काम में लगा चुकी थी।

आज हालात ये हैं कि दिल्ली में कई दिनों से आंदोलन चल रहा है, लेकिन चाहकर भी उसे ठीक से कवर नहीं कर पा रही हूं, क्योंकि अब आने-जाने के पैसे तक नहीं हैं।

खुद वीडियो शूट करना, कैमरा संभालना और एडिटिंग करना - अब तक सब कुछ अकेले करती आई हूं। एक अच्छा एडिटर हो, तो काम काफी बेहतर हो सकता है। एक दोस्त कैमरा संभालने के लिए तैयार है, लेकिन उसे आने-जाने का खर्च देने तक की क्षमता नहीं है।

स्टोरी के लिए अकेले कई बार ट्रेन के जनरल डब्बे से सफर कर के आना जाना भी करती रही हूं। अकेली लड़की के लिए इस तरह ये सब कितना मुश्किल होता है शायद आप इस बात तो बेहतर समझ पाएंगे। जिन स्टोरी को आप देखते हैं , उसके पीछे एक स्वतंत्र पत्रकार की मेहनत क्या होती है शायद आप उसे नहीं देख पाते हैं।

कई दिनों से घर पर बैठी हूं, जबकि मुझे ग्राउंड पर होना चाहिए। सच कहूं तो अब बहुत टूट चुकी हूं। कई बार सब छोड़ देने का ख्याल आता है, लेकिन अपने जमीर और पत्रकारिता की स्वतंत्रता से समझौता नहीं करना चाहती।

मैं पत्रकारिता छोड़ना नहीं चाहती, बस उसे ईमानदारी से जारी रखने के लिए आपका साथ चाहती हूं।

इसलिए पहली बार आप सबसे आर्थिक सहयोग की अपील कर रही हूं। मैं उन मुद्दों को सामने लाना चाहती हूं, जिन्हें मुख्यधारा की मीडिया अक्सर नजरअंदाज कर देती है।

I have said this before and I am saying it again: the government wants to create major unrest in the country by pitting citizens against citizens. They want to create a civil war-like situation. But we, the young generation have always remained PEACEFUL.

I urge @DelhiPolice to ensure such right-wing extremists do not enter protest zone or kill any protester. Detain them before they leave their houses. Bail was rejected for Umar and me, and we are being punished as the most articulate voices of the protest. I am singled out for having led the Shaheen Bagh movement in its initial and formative phase. The irony is that the RSS-BJP have signalled clearly that we are being punished for our roles in the anti-CAA protest, and a section of the “secular” and “liberal” media still underplays my contribution by dismissing me and pointing to the “chicken neck” chakka jaam slogan, as if I sit in jail because I am a madman or a “secessionist” with no significant role in the protests.
