Below is the Executive approval for the power agreement under which Asante Berko was convicted.
The prosecutors stated emphatically that $46,000 in bribes was allegedly pushed through Ghana’s Parliament in 2015 to influence members of the then NDC Majority Caucus and get the deal approved.
Let that sink in.
These emergency power purchase agreements reportedly went on to cost Ghana about $1 billion every year from 2017, leaving the Akufo Addo administration with the difficult task of dealing with the burden.
Meanwhile some people claim the opposition has no moral right to speak on issues affecting this country.
If corruption, reckless contracts and the misuse of public resources are being discussed, no political party should be above scrutiny.
NB: I'm just reporting oooo.
— @NanaDarko__
Isn’t it sad that the alleged payer of the bribe has been investigated and convicted, while the alleged recipients on our side remain free, with no apparent interest from the state in investigating them?
@Manasseh_Azure This allegations surfaced in 2020 and the NPP of Nana Addo did nothing about it!!
Now I wonder what NDC could do given that no direct evidences or identification were made in the court
Observe how the 78m gang are doing their best to suppress news concerning corruption of their paymasters.
They will discuss anything but that. To them their pockets are more important than the development n welfare of the nation.
While Mahama’s appointees in his 1st term were happily taking bribes from Kweku Asante Berko, the fmr Goldman Sachs investment banker, including the then Power Minister, Ghanaians were left to endure the pain of Dumsor.
Akronfoɔ
He was appointed as MD of TOR in January 2020 and asked to resign in April 2020. Thats 4months.
That was when his corrupt act involving the then Mahama government was pumping up.
Yet still, the fact still remain that, Mahama and his officials between 2012 to 2015 took bribe from this man.
If Our anti corruption institutions are worth their sort, they will get busy investigating and prosecuting those mentioned in the US Court Aksa bribery finding.
Over to you OSP, EOCO, AG.
Lets see if you only see opposition targets
WHAT YOU DO OR DONT DO WILL REGISTER.
Court documents and evidence presented at trial established that between 2014 and 2015, Berko, then an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs, orchestrated more than $1 million in corrupt payments to high-level Ghanaian government officials and Members of Parliament to secure approval for a power plant project for Turkish energy company Aksa Enerji.
That period falls squarely within the Mahama 1 administration, raising serious questions about the officials and political actors who may have been involved or benefited from the deal.
Remarkably, much of the Ghanaian media appears silent.
If these allegations involved the opposition, would the media be this quiet?
The prosecutor said that three women at the Power Ministry received $20,000 each in bribes, with an additional $30,000 provided to defend the deal in the media in 2015.
This raise serious questions about the integrity of Ghana’s media landscape and the extent to which money may have influenced public discourse.
Bribes paid. Parliament ratified. Local firms cut out. It took a foreign country to demand justice for Ghanaian businesses our own leaders sold out. Then we wonder why the youth Jakpa and never look back.
