3D printing looks like the business of the future, with hundreds of millions in investment swirling around it. But look closely at the ones who actually made money, and the picture turns out unexpected

Every company made millions, but none of them did it on the printing itself. The reason is simple: a printer today is ordered from a catalog, and files copy for free, so anyone can replicate the printing

Since the machine is easy to copy, the money shifts to what can't be. Each company has its own niche:

> ICON: printing is 1 of 7 phases, the rest is finishing and engineering
> Firestorm: prints where a supply chain physically can't reach
> Revo: years of work on the salmon recipe, not the extruder itself

It works like this: first you find your niche, whether it's a client with repeat orders, a rare material or a place with no competition. And only then do you buy the printer
