🚨 Bryan Mbeumo on why he's proud of Carrick and Manchester United's set-piece success:
🗣️ Mbeumo:
“We finished the season as one of the best teams from set pieces. But what I'm most proud of is how we did it. Our set pieces were more technical than physical. We didn't need to wrestle anyone. We didn't need to turn every corner into a boxing match.
Take the goal against Spurs for example. That was straight from the training ground. Everything about it was planned. Bruno takes the corner. Normally he delivers into the box, so naturally that's what everybody expected. Instead he plays it short. Mainoo receives it.
Now Kobbie is one of the hardest players to read because he's so good at disguising what he's about to do. The defenders are watching him, trying to figure out whether he's going to dribble, shoot or pass. Then suddenly the ball arrives at my feet. First time. Goal. Spurs never saw it coming. And that's what makes me proud.
People see the finish and think that's the important part. But the goal was already halfway scored in the meeting room and on the training pitch. Every detail had been discussed. Every movement had a purpose. Involving three different players with three different qualities. Put them together in the right sequence and the whole thing just worked perfectly.
That's why I have so much respect for Carrick and the coaching staff. Nothing was left to chance.”

🚨Steve Holland on Manchester United’s summer midfield plans with Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson all under consideration:
🗣️ “Manchester United’s priority is to build a midfield that can control games, win duels and still have the technical quality to play progressive football.
The ideal midfielder for Manchester United today is someone who can defend large spaces, recover possession, progress the ball quickly and contribute in both phases of play.
That’s why different profiles are being discussed.
Sandro Tonali is attractive because he is already proven at the highest level. He brings leadership, intensity, tactical intelligence and experience in big matches.
Carlos Baleba offers physical dominance, athleticism and defensive security. He has the profile to become one of the best ball-winning midfielders in Europe.
Elliot Anderson is admired because of his energy, versatility and ability to carry the ball through midfield. He understands the pace of the Premier League and has shown he can influence games consistently.
Mateus Fernandes is viewed differently. The club sees him as a player with huge potential, technical quality and room to develop, but also understands that he is not yet as proven as some of the other names being considered.
The reason Tonali, Anderson and Baleba are receiving so much attention is because they fit the immediate need for reliability and physical presence in midfield.
Manchester United want players who can compete now while also helping build the foundation for the future.
The club likes Fernandes, but when comparing profiles, Tonali, Anderson and Baleba are seen as players who can impact the team immediately while still having their best years ahead of them.”
