The Communist Party of China recently convened the 5th Plenary Session of its 20th Central Committee. Unlike last year's 4th Session, which focused on a blueprint for China's development over the next five years, this session emphasized full and rigorous party self-governance.
Fifty-five years ago today, the People’s Republic of China restored its lawful seat in the United Nations.
What do you think its contribution to global affairs has been? #UN#China

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro should stop undermining China-Philippines relations and stability in the South China Sea.
It is the Philippine side who has violated #UNCLOS and undermined its integrity and authority. #Philippine
Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro on Tuesday criticized what he called a violation of UNCLOS and “coercion, bullying and aggression” by China at an international forum, in response to being handed a piece of paper stating China’s position on the South China Sea. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning urged certain individuals of the Philippine side to cut the provocations and theatrics, and stop undermining China-Philippines relations and stability in the South China Sea.
Mao made the comments at Wednesday’s regular press conference, saying, “I’m not sure what exactly happened at the event, but China’s position has always been clear on the so-called “South China Sea arbitration”. The Philippines unilaterally initiated the case, which is a distortion and abuse of the UNCLOS dispute settlement mechanism. It is the Philippine side who has violated UNCLOS and undermined its integrity and authority.”

What caused the deadly floods along China- Nepal border? According to BBC, Dr Simon Cook, a glacier expert with the University of Dundee, said that his team had detected that the lower part of a glacier in Nepal near the Langtang Lirung peak - which is approximately 15km west of the site of the floods - had collapsed.
The collapse of glacier caused a large volume of ice and rock debris to enter the Lende Khola, a tributary of the Bhote Koshi river, which in turn generated a sudden surge in the river carrying water, sediment and large boulders downstream.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, which is also known as the Tokyo Trial.
Eighty years ago, judges from 11 countries presided over 818 hearings over two and a half years, 419 witnesses testified, 4,336 pieces of evidence were examined, and more than 48,000 pages of trial records were produced. In the end, 25 defendants were found guilty, and seven of them, including Hideki Tojo, were sentenced to hanging.
This was a just reckoning with the crimes of Japanese militarism, and a warning to anyone attempting to revive militarism.
The criminal acts committed by Japanese militarism in history must be fully acknowledged and thoroughly exposed, so that we may better safeguard the peace we have always cherished. #TokyoTrial #Japandesemilitarism
