The Western idea of teenagers working in cafes makes zero macroeconomic sense in India.
First there is absolutely no need for it.
India is a labor surplus economy. Western cafes hire 16 yr due to a severe shortage of cheap adult labor. Here millions of adults desperately need these entry level service jobs to feed their families.
Allocating a cafe job to a teenager for pocket money when an adult needs it for basic survival is socially and economically tone deaf.
Second the wage economics completely fail here. Because unskilled labor is abundant the market wage is incredibly low.
A teenager’s time is their absolute highest ROI asset. In our hyper competitive, developing economy, their sole economic utility should be human capital formation studying, clearing exams, and building specialized skills.
Blindly importing a Western model built for labor scarce economies isn't progressive, it's just bad economics.
That's what atleast i think......
I was thinking about this yesterday.
If you come from a poor background, you have got to be super lucky be out of poverty in your first attempt.
Alhamdulillah.
Meezan Bank's net profit after tax rose from just Rs 5.56 billion in 2016 to a peak of Rs 102 billion in 2024 — an increase of nearly 18.5 times. Its net profit has more than tripled in the last five years. Why? How?
It claims to be the largest Islamic bank. But what it is doing is really Islamic - interest free banking? It is not. I say it as a pioneer of these structures (e.g. Murabaha) in the 1990s when I was a banker in Karachi.
Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani has served as Chairman of Meezan Bank's Shariah Board since the bank's inception in 2002, while his son, Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani, serves as a member of the Shariah Board and holds senior Shariah governance and product-development responsibilities within the bank, since 2016.
Meezan Bank publicly discloses these positions and biographies. However, based on the bank's publicly available governance pages and annual reports reviewed, the specific compensation, fees, honoraria, or remuneration paid individually to either Mufti Taqi Usmani or Dr. Imran Ashraf Usmani are not available as they are not separately disclosed in those public documents.
The "Islamic Banking" is highly profitable for banks and bankers.
Meezan Bank delivered extraordinary profit growth over the last decade, significantly outperforming conventional banks during the high interest rate cycle.
Its consolidated net profit after tax rose from just Rs 5.56 billion in 2016 to a peak of Rs 102.69 billion in 2024 — an increase of nearly 18.5 times.
This steep rise was largely enabled by Meezan’s Islamic banking structure. Unlike conventional banks, Meezan does not pay fixed interest on deposits. A large portion of its deposits are current accounts on which it pays zero return. On profit-sharing deposits, returns to depositors are flexible rather than contractually fixed.
This allowed Meezan to retain a much larger share of the spread when policy rates rose sharply to 22% between 2022 and 2024.

Banking in Pakistan has become a nightmare. Even normal transactions that have already cleared full KYC are now treated as suspicious by the SBP-backed banking cartel. @StateBank_Pak
If money is moving from one bank or mutual fund to another, it has already undergone every possible vetting. What’s the reason for this extra suspicion?
Black economy obsession + FATF has destroyed our financial sector. India must be laughing at our self-inflicted damage.

Two of the greatest World Cup players of all time.
The two are tied for most World Cup KO stage goal contributions in the last 60 years (14).
Don't take this for granted.

When I founded Vanguard Books in 1978, the idea was simple: publish books that matter, even when they are not always commercially viable.
With a dedicated team in place, @Vanguardbooks has so far published more than 400 titles ; this year alone, we have published 25 books, and our bookstore now carries 30,000+ local and international titles for readers across Pakistan.

Why the fuck do you need a man to provide for you?
Are you that worthless ...??? Am sorry, your parents should have done better.
Transactional women like these 👇👇 condition men to "expect stuff" after a date.
PS: Personally, I have not once met a woman who expected me to spend money on her like this. Most people have self respect, men or women. At least those I have known.

If you don’t even like Ronaldo, you have to acknowledge his spirit and mentality. There’s nobody in football history the media has been against like this from the very beginning. I mean, even the FIFA Ex president (Sepp Blatter) was publicly saying he wasn’t humble, that he behaves like a commando. Do you know how crazy it is to have survived all that?
Yet he still went on to have one of the greatest careers the sport has ever seen while constantly facing that level of scrutiny. Take this World Cup for example. They ran the same agenda in the 2022 World Cup that he was too old, he’s killing the team. Four years later, they’re still pushing the exact same narrative. He’s coming the back of a 30g season where he outscored all the attackers, yet they push the same agenda. It’s almost like every tournament has to start with people writing him off before a ball is even kicked. You don’t see that happening to any other player in the same way or Do you see them doing that for anyone else?? No!!!!.
That’s been his reality for over 20 years. Every dip in form becomes a worldwide headline. Every missed chance is treated like the end of his career. Every tournament people predict his downfall, hoping this will finally be the one where he can’t answer back.
Whether you think he’s the greatest or not is a different conversation. But the mentality it takes to keep showing up year after year, knowing millions are waiting for you to fail, is something very few athletes in any sport have ever had. Most players would’ve broken mentally long ago. Ronaldo somehow turned that pressure into fuel, and that’s a huge reason why his longevity is unlike anything football has ever seen.

This is brilliant and should be studied by central bankers everywhere! Peoples Bank of China was the first to deflate a massive, leveraged housing bubble without a single quarter of economic contraction or loss of growth momentum in the real economy.
A success for the history books.
