Goodnews today .
My very own Chief passed FRCPath.
I remember when I was telling him that as a senior consultant, this exam will be easier for him than PLAB.
I’m happy he listened.
Next step is GMC registration.
I hope people begin to explore membership exams as alternative pathway to getting UK GMC registration.
We’re continuing to prepare for the upcoming regulation of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). Here’s an update on how we’re reviewing responses from our consultation and next steps:
⚫️Our consultation was a structured process designed to gather and analyse nuanced feedback to inform and shape PA and AA regulation. The process allows us to consider different perspectives and make evidence-based decisions, which is why it takes time.
⚫️The scope of the consultation was specific to meet legal obligations under the Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order. It focused on technical aspects, covering our proposed rules, standards, and guidance related to education, registration, dealing with concerns, and the fees framework for PAs and AAs.
⚫️The consultation wasn’t about deciding whether PAs and AAs should be regulated, or who their regulator should be, as these decisions have already been taken by the Department of Health and Social Care and passed into law through the UK and Scottish Parliaments. This means we have a legal duty to regulate PAs and AAs from December 2024. The consultation also didn’t cover PA and AA roles or their deployment, as these areas are for the NHS and employers.
⚫️We’re very grateful to everyone who took part and we’re currently analysing the responses to help inform any changes to the draft rules, standards and guidance that we shared in the consultation. We’ll publish a report showing how the consultation and insights from research we conducted with members of the public, shaped our approach at the end of the year. We’ll also publish the final versions of the rules, standards and guidance once they’ve been approved by our governing Council.
⚫️When regulation begins, it’ll help assure patients, colleagues, and employers that PAs and AAs are safe to practise and can be held accountable if serious concerns are raised. As always, patient safety remains our absolute focus and priority.
⚫️We’ll keep you updated as our work towards regulation progresses. To learn more, visit our PA and AA webpages and sign up for our community of interest newsletter: https://t.co/BxY8N5IYS1
