NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS)

PRESS RELEASE
Dear Nigerian Students,
It is with great pleasure that I write to you at this critical juncture to formally invite you to a Democracy Day Walk in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
As your President, I remain firmly committed to the ideals of democracy, principles which have, over time, guaranteed our liberty to operate, to organize, and to represent your collective will.
The significance of democracy in the sovereignty of our nation cannot be overstated. It is the foundation upon which our freedoms stand, granting us the right to express ourselves, to demand improved welfare, and to actively participate in shaping our collective future.
As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, which represents the very foundation of our liberty, I hereby call for a nationwide Democracy Walk to commemorate and reflect on the essence of democratic governance in Nigeria.
This year’s Democracy Walk shall hold simultaneously in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Imo States.
As Nigerian students, we bear a great responsibility for the future of this nation, and indeed, its sovereignty rests significantly on our shoulders. We must, therefore, remain resolute in preserving, protecting, and advancing the democratic ideals that bind us together as a people.
Thank you.
Yours in nation-building,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS
President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)
59% of Nigeria's fashion workforce is female. Fashion is also the largest employer in the entire creative economy. That means the sector that employs the most Nigerians in the creative industries is majority female. When we invest in fashion infrastructure, we are investing principally in women's economic participation. That is a policy choice I make deliberately.

The management of Osun state University, Osogbo has refused to refund students whose tuitions were paid by NELFUND four months ago, even with clear directives from NELFUND that all students who had earlier paid tuition before NELFUND disbursement be refunded
All Lautech students, suspended by the university for protesting, have been pardoned and the suspension has been reduced to letter of warning by the senate, after the intervention of the NANS PRESIDENT…
Special appreciation to the university Vice chancellor and the university senate , for listening to the voice of reason from Nigerian Students.
I spent a significant part of today in discussions with the Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, during which we reached a mutual understanding that the affected students will file an appeal against the decision, and that the Senate will convene on Monday to review its resolution.
In view of this development, I earnestly appeal to all comrades to sheath their swords and allow the Senate to carry out a proper review and reversal, so as not to further complicate the matter, and to ensure that the affected students are able to resume their academic activities in due course.
Furthermore, I wish to appreciate and commend the Dean of Students Affairs for his proactiveness and fatherly disposition.
Going forward, as I have always maintained, I wish to reiterate that protest must always remain our last resort. The guiding principles of Aluta, consultation, consolidation, and confrontation must be strictly observed. Before we resort to confrontation in any struggle, we must have exhaustively explored and exhausted the first two Cs.
That said, as your President, you can trust that I will never compromise on our collective interest and the welfare of Nigerian students.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

PRESS STATEMENT
ON THE VISIT TO THE OYO STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE REGARDING THE ABDUCTION OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN ORIIRE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
Today, in my capacity as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and in furtherance of our advocacy for the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, I led a delegation of NANS to the Oyo State Police Headquarters, where we met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji.
I strongly condemned the heinous abduction of our students and teachers. I stressed that their continued captivity compelled me to temporarily relocate the NANS Headquarters to Oyo State. I briefed the Commissioner of Police that our visit to the state was aimed at engaging the government and security agencies, as well as commiserating with the families of the victims and visiting the affected schools.
I further stated that NANS is an ideology-driven organization with a clear mandate to represent and advance the collective interests of Nigerian students. We are fully aware of the responsibility we shoulder, and we operate with a well-defined modus operandi that is neither impulsive nor unilateral.
Going forward, I commended the efforts and sacrifices of the security operatives while appealing to them to intensify their efforts toward the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. I also urged them to strengthen security across our campuses and educational institutions.
In my address, I stated:
"We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. However, we cannot afford to allow these terrorists to win. Therefore, this has become a collective struggle for all of us. At the same time, we must not place undue pressure on our security operatives in a manner that would make these criminals believe they have overwhelmed the system. This is not the time for blame-shifting but a time for unity, collaboration, and collective action to bring an end to this tragedy."
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police acknowledged the current leadership of NANS as truly ideology-driven and noted that we have demonstrated a high level of maturity and responsibility. He stressed that we are at a critical juncture where all stakeholders must support the security agencies to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. He further stated that this is not a time to exploit the situation for political gain, emphasizing that journalism and activism serve different purposes.
He assured us of the commitment and ongoing efforts of the security agencies to secure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers, noting that they share in our pain and grief as parents and citizens.
Furthermore, he assured us that, despite the challenges, the security operatives would do everything within their capacity to ensure that Nigerians are not disappointed.
As President of NANS, I wish to assure Nigerian students that their mandate remains safe in my hands, and I will never compromise on my responsibility to protect and advance their interests.
Viva Aluta!
Thank you.
Yours in solidarity,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS
President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)
Dear Nigerian Students,
As I welcome you to this new month, I write to you with a heavy heart. As one of you, I share in your pains, your fears, your hopes, and your aspirations. I am not oblivious to our collective concerns or to the anguish that continues to weigh heavily upon our hearts. Yet, even amid these challenges, I write to you with a renewed sense of purpose, resolute determination, and an abiding sense of responsibility.
Fellow Nigerian students, upon my emergence as your President, I hit the ground running, confronting the most pressing issues affecting our welfare, security, and overall well-being. I am acutely aware that we stand at a critical juncture where hope appears to be waning and confidence in the future is steadily eroding. Nevertheless, I wish to assure you of my unyielding resolve, steadfast commitment, and relentless pursuit of the ideals and aspirations of Nigerian students.
Be assured that the mandate you entrusted to me remains safe, secure, and sacrosanct. As your President, I am your Chief Servant, and you can always trust me not to disappoint or falter in our collective pursuit of excellence, greatness, safer campuses, and improved welfare for all.
This is not the time for our differences to separate us. It is not the time for our divergent views to break us. Neither is it a time for our differing standpoints to divide us. Rather, it is a time for our collective will to propel us forward; a time for our common goals to unite us; and a time for our shared interests to bind us together.
Remember, in unity lies our strength. Our voice is louder when we speak with one accord, and we are more formidable when we work together with sincerity and purpose. I dare say that we are stronger together than we could ever imagine. Let us, therefore, march forward in unity and solidarity.
May this new month usher in a fresh wave of peace, comfort, improved welfare, and enhanced security across our schools, campuses, and the nation at large.
Happy New Month, Great Nigerian Students.
Thank you.
Yours in service,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS

@AbdulAbmJ lack of loyalty has cost you so much. By now, you could have been among the key figures within the Presidency. But, you chose to go against the directives of your principal and defect to the NNPP simply because of a House of Representatives ticket.

Everyday this life gives me more reason to stay humble and treat people with absolute respect and kindness. The Qur’an verse that says “Walaqad karrammna bani adama” reveal its deeper meaning before me following a series of political events that unfolded in kaduna state.
Few years ago, @elrufai fought @ShehuSani with everything he had and frustrated life out of him for simply refusing to put pen to paper for a loan. He did everything possible to expunge him out of the political stratosphere at the moment— nearly erased his political relevance entirely.
Today, the same Shehu Sani is on the verge of becoming a senator while the embattled ex Governor is getting swindled from one anti-graft agency to another.
Accord humans their deserving respects and rights. Treat people with dignity. Never dehumanize others because of a temporary position of power. No matter how influential or untouchable someone may seem, God has a way of vindicating His servants — sometimes in equal measure, sometimes even greater, and always in His own time.
Be humble.
