Competition for land ownership is intensifying on a daily basis hence putting more pressure on Customary Tenure System. There's need for Customary land reforms in the Country in order to contain the prevailing situation.

Copperbelt Province has 10 Districts and 3 out of 10 Districts have Customary Land. The other 7 Districts are urban and peri-urban in nature. Most of these urban Districts hosts a number of private farms making it difficult to plan and expand the Cities.

@sbudar007 Expropriation must be accompanied with compensation especially on private owned land. It must also be in national interest but again we must defined what national interest is as regards to law.

@nkowane1 One key Customary Tenure System reform is to acquire all traditional land lying about 30km-40km of urban and semi-urban areas in order to allow urban expansion. It's controversial though but quite necessary at this stage.

Acquiring a certificate of title to land has become preserve of the elite in society. It's quite length and cumbersome process for an ordinary person to follow and acquire title. Govt must make the process simple and affordable. Reduce the costs involved in title processing

You've the right to use, manage and pass over the land to the next generation for production and as a symbol of identity. Please don't not sale your birth right and the generation to come after you over silver and gold!!!

Alinjavwa Derrick Simwinga served as Kitwe TC for 18yrs at a time when I worked for Zambia Land Alliance (Kitwe District). I randomly called him a month ago or so when he told me he turned 70. We had few battles but we worked well together on land governance issues. Long live sir

Always try to buy legally documented land that's titled land. We know people are desperate to become home owners but ensure that you carryout a verification process before paying for any piece of land. Remember, we inherited the colonial legacy of land governance. It's by paper!
