DEVELOPING: Good morning from Washington, D.C. Last night, just before midnight, the Democratic National Convention announced that 99% of Democratic delegates officially crowned Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party presidential nominee after a five-day online ballot. That was just a formality because, within 32 hours of Biden's withdrawal, she had already secured the 1,976 delegates needed to become the nominee. Still, the party waited until the online vote was completed to make it official yesterday.
NOTE: She will announce her running mate today. The finalists are Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (@JoshShapiroPA). Both the presidential nominee and the vice presidential nominee will campaign in Pennsylvania today.
NOTE: Yesterday, it seemed that she had picked Tim Walz, but there is no official confirmation, and it might still be Josh Shapiro. We will know in the coming hours. Tim Walz has argued that Donald Trump is mentally unstable and is being given too much credit for things he knows nothing about. He told his party to refer to him as 'weird.' Now, all of them are using that catchword. However, there has yet to be an official confirmation that he has been selected.
NOTE: By avoiding a brutal primary election after Biden was forced to drop out amid bad poll numbers, the Democratic Party also avoided the chaotic open primary that led to their defeat in 1968 after President Johnson dropped out months before the Democratic Party Convention.
NOTE: Harris will officially accept the Democratic Party nomination in Chicago next week, becoming the first woman of color to lead a major presidential ticket in the United States since independence.
Tu n’as jamais tourné le dos.
Thank you my brother Abedi.
Guillaume Kigbafori Soro.

To my brother Abedi,
There are friendships that withstand the test of time.
Brotherhoods that nothing can break.
Today, such values have become rare—if not endangered.
Betrayal seems to have become the new norm.
Disloyalty has spread—within families, in politics, everywhere.
And GPS will not be spared.
Others will leave.
Others will betray.
And that is precisely why I want to pay tribute to you, Abedi Pelé—
my brother in heart, my faithful friend.
In my misfortune, you stood firm.
Despite the humiliations. Despite the dangers. You never turned your back.
Thank you for your dignity in friendship.
Thank you for those moments of fraternity, and for the risks you took for me.
I salute your son, André Ayew, who affectionately calls me “my uncle,”
and your daughter Imani, whose name so perfectly reflects her grace and gentleness.
May God bless you all.
And may your example continue to shine in a world that has grown so poor in loyalty.
Thank you, my brother Abedi.

Dear all,
I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to the brotherly people of Ghana and to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the warm and fraternal welcome extended to me.

I salute the vision, wisdom, and spirit of hospitality of President Mahama, a true heir to the values of unity, solidarity, and justice that define our shared African ideal.
Thank you to Ghana.
Thank you to president John Dramani Mahama @JDMahama

Whatever you think of tariffs, it’s clear that now is the worst possible time for the United States to participate in a military strike on Iran. We can’t afford it. Thousands of Americans would die. We’d lose the war that follows. Nothing would be more destructive to our country. And yet we’re closer than ever, thanks to unrelenting pressure from neocons. This is suicidal. Anyone advocating for conflict with Iran is not an ally of the United States, but an enemy.
Many people believe the silly propaganda that Putin invaded Ukraine for no reason, just because he is a mean dictator, and that he will conquer all Europe if we don’t stop him.
Watch this explanation by Jeffrey Sachs to better understand what’s going on.
