However, my son who played 6-13, would have probably played 4 years of high school football if the coach had not made him feel on day one of freshman year that he had to choose between baseball and football… that is not right.

@Ricky_Blyberg @CoachLarryCox Again, it comes down to the level of importance to the athletes. I could equally say it would be unjust for a football coach to penalize a player for missing one practice to try to try out for an elite team when there may be 40 a 50 players going out for 1 or 2 spots.

@Ricky_Blyberg @CoachLarryCox My point is if a kid is leaning towards baseball, and a high profile team is holding tryouts, that athlete should not be judged for going. Summer baseball is of the utmost importance to a baseball leaning athlete, that doesn’t mean other sports are not important to them.

@CoachLarryCox It’s more about the athlete’s goals than coaches feeling slighted. Weve had kids miss entire weekend travel tournaments to go to 7 on 7 for football. Just as summer tryouts for baseball overlap the football season. It’s the reality for multi sport athletes.
