I got this advise on the mountain one summit night. The Lead Guide on Mount Kenya said "this is a summit attempt, like for fun, it is not a matter of life and death, it is just an attempt" - and that took the pressure off instantly.
That budget was not written for SMEs, content creators, influencers, fintech entrepreneurs, farmers, manufacturers or ordinary hustlers trying to build something honest.
It was a warning shot.
The full force of KRA is coming, because that budget deficit is not a joke. The government must raise money from somewhere, and instead of cutting waste, stopping corruption and reducing reckless spending, they will come for the people already struggling to survive.
Look at the sectors that received the biggest allocations and you will understand the game. Money has been directed to areas where looting can happen easily, while those who create jobs, pay taxes, produce goods and keep the economy alive are being squeezed dry.
They will loot from the top as they bleed the bottom.
This is not just bad economics. It is cruelty dressed as fiscal policy. Ruto and this government have made it clear that the ordinary Kenyan is nothing more than a revenue target.
For the uninformed, let me explain...
This ain't a Disney original. This was a YouTube thing. Made by the mom and Dad to educate their daughter with the lack of diversity in children's entertainment. And it's a small team. They only use Photoshop and After Effects to animate it.
and if you were like me a few years ago and feel too brain rotted to do an hour.
start with a 15 minute timer.
everytime your brain wants to pick your phone up or switch to something over stimulating. take a breath, acknowledge the urge, and focus back to your task.
do this again and again until the timer is up.
this is how you train your brain to focus for long amounts of time.
As someone who took the plunge on a lot of these and did them, it's genuinely one of the most rewarding things you can do. 😌 It's extremely fun to learn a discipline like yeah you'll be bad at it for a while, but the next time you try learning something related it'll be even faster.
If you learn how to play the piano, learning how to play the guitar becomes much easier. Learning how to produce music, will make the process of learning sound design easier etc.
I think the reason I enjoy making video games is because it's such a culmination of all the stuff I've learned? I can be creative with my art, my programming, my music and sound design, my storytelling, it's all of it.
And honestly, you might hate the thing you try doing but at least you'll know. It's intimidating but I think a lot of people overestimate just how difficult these things are to start, you just do it. You'll learn as you go.
I say this to my kids all the time. Do it for the plot. Do it for the story. Tell yourself if it all goes wrong it will just be a funny story. Ironically job interviews, dates, and public speaking go better anyway if you're just happy to be there and not overthinking it!!
FUNMAXXING
You never learned how to live. Nothing is serious. Talk to people. You can do anything. Tomorrow doesn’t exist. Don’t overthink. Just do it. Create things because why not. Seek novelty. Pursue eternal joy. Play for fun. Give yourself more credit. Be an example of what life can look like.
If you understood the absurdity of everything, your worries would fade, and you would come closer to achieving peace.
Balance is key.
You must learn how to make progress while still making time for fun.
This is free advice from an expensive psychologist. If you’re an anxious person, do everything for fun. Go to a job interview for fun. Submit documents for fun. Start a blog for fun. Anxiety feeds on importance. Don’t make everything a matter of life and death.
Did you know that the .png format was created out of spite? Or that .jpeg just discards like half of the colours in your image because you won't notice?
To celebrate last week's launch, I published a chapter on image compression.

Since this scene was a mix of 2D and 3D animation, it was extremely complex and challenging to make work. I had to make sure all the action timing was prepared in advance. Many people worked incredibly hard to make this possible
Currently working on a client project involving @SafaricomPLC MPesa #Daraja APIs, specifically C2B payments, Account Balance inquiries, and automated B2C disbursements.
One thing this project continues to reinforce is that payment integrations are fundamentally different from standard API integrations. Beyond the technical implementation, they require careful attention to security, compliance, reconciliation, settlement processes, and transaction monitoring to ensure reliability and trust.
