@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 Personal preference will always be a factor but at a certain point the argument becomes “world gen doesn’t matter” and I think that’s hand waiving away an extremely important aspect of the game in a way that’s cheap and lazy

[Murtle @MurtleIsMe]

@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 It’s bad game design to create a world that leaves your mind because you found the right type of wood, you know? Exploration IS gameplay so it should be as interesting as possible and it isn’t.

[Murtle @MurtleIsMe]

@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 Being able to map out, both on in game maps and mentally, specific areas of the world is a good feeling and that feeling should be reinforced because it’s fun and makes me feel like I’m exploring a real world an not a formless mush with no clear beginning or end

[Murtle @MurtleIsMe]

@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 Game feel IS game design. If something feels better to exist in then it feels better to play. That’s not a quantifiable thing but I’m telling you, to me, continental generation feels so much better than the default noise map

[Murtle @MurtleIsMe]

@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 space for me. Traveling means nothing when everything is everywhere all the time. With continents you get to make a mental map of the world you have and it makes it feel like “yours”. A self imposed limit or shrinking the world border is not a substitute for good game design.

[Murtle @MurtleIsMe]

@insectophiliac @Rage_Crayon @Meelsie143 that experience every time I make a world. Oceans do NOT need to be massive or take hours to cross but simple continental generation in base game would increase my enjoyment of the game in magnitudes I cannot overstate. The sprawling infinite blob completely destroys all sense of
