If you are a museum worker experiencing the hardship of debt, apply here for a chance to receive $500 in aid through our lottery system: https://t.co/dZBbuataUn
But the good news is when our institutions will not stand up for us, we stand in solidarity with one another. Please share widely! And be in touch at [email protected].
In solidarity, Museum Workers Speak πππ
Hi all, and thanks to those who filled out our survey asking what to do with the $12,000 remaining with our fiscal sponsor Open Collective before they dissolve September 30. Survey responses were loud and clear, asking us to hold one last lottery focusing on debt relief.
Plus, the rent is too damn high! We know that our institutions learned precious few lessons from the pandemic, and museum workers remain as underpaid and vulnerable as ever.
Alright, #AAM2022 Tweeps, while we're thinking about relevance & prof dev, here's some real talk about white supremacy culture embedded in the operations of our professional associations, including @aamers, via an of-the-moment case study w/ @EmpatheticMuse. A π§΅1/
And we're not done! If the recent attack at MoMA taught us anything, vulnerable museum workers will *always* need financial support when our institutions won't support us. To contribute to the fund, visit our Open Collective site: https://t.co/AqtE6qfWHu
π’π’π’ The #MuseumWorkersFund will be distributing $500 gifts to workers in front of house positions! Please let your colleagues in guest services, security, retail, cafe jobs, etc. about @MuseumWorkers fund and encourage them to apply by April 8, 2022:

To quote @pablitasan: All of the funds we have received and distributed through the #MuseumWorkersFund have been given by other museum workers. We π take πcare π of π us.
We couldn't be more proud to be mutuals with you all!
I'm seeing a lot of jokes about the MoMA stabbing and how unbelievable it is that a museum would draw out violence and it just speaks to how visitors do not realize that museums are service jobs & like any service job violent offenders feel "owed" the right to attack the employee
These events at MoMA make me think about a few different things:
1. Museum higher ups rarely acknowledge how hazardous front of house work can be, people are not compensated in a way that acknowledges the skillful deescalation needed and the dangers of working FoH. (1/x)
