During the Public Darbar at my residence, listened to the concerns of the people and assured them that all genuine issues would be taken up with the concerned authorities for prompt redressal. The discussions mainly focused on development works, civic amenities, infrastructure, public welfare schemes, and other issues of public importance.

MANY J&K MLAs DISAPPOINTED, DISILLUSIONED?

In the last couple of weeks, I happened to interact with a number of the J&K MLAs and MPs, both ruling and opposition. With some at condolence meetings, with some informally and accidentally at other different occasions. What I noticed, perhaps for the first time since 1996, is the ubiquitous feeling of disappointment, alienation and disempowerment. These are all private conversations and I can't identify the people. However, I feel I must share this developing undercurrent of disappointment with a feeble hope of some correction in the system. I may share things in detail later. As of now, I can feel and say that there's no move of the ruling party MLAs defecting to any other party but a very strong possibility of some of the MLAs resigning and quitting the politics for ever.

"My arch rival in the constituency has been winning and losing with me by rotation. I feel there's no possibility of my winning the next Assembly election. I have been speaking against my rival but he doesn't utter a word against me. He has also served as a Minister in the PDP Government and retained the image of an honest and people-friendly politician. He is no more with the PDP but his victory (as the candidate of a different party) is a foregone conclusion for many reasons. I have never felt this kind of humiliation, disillusionment and disempowerment which I am experiencing since October 2024. The officers don't take us seriously. We are publicly humiliated and we feel completely helpless. Our works programs are not operating. Almost all my works proposals are pending. There's no accountability. I have no hesitation to say that many remarkable development works had been executed during the LG's period. Many also in my constituency. Today, there are none. Things are at a standstill since the day we resumed power. There's no development in my constituency. All works are in shambles and nobody is listening. A small coterie of today turncoats and political opportunists, as also some officers who are known to be prejudiced against the NC are calling the shots in this regime. Only this coterie of personal vested interests and a few of the Ministers are enjoying power, protocol and influence and all others stand dejected, disappointed and humiliated. When we highlighted this scenario with our CM in a meeting, he said we must choose a "new team of six" after the Eid"

"Why do we contest elections at the risk of our life? For nothing other than gaining and retaining some respect. Today neither our electors nor our officers, nor our Ministers have any respect for us. We have no credibility. Some of us may have less/other options but I am not even thinking of shifting to any other party. I am now at the extreme end of tolerance and perhaps just days or weeks short of tendering my resignation and quitting the politics for ever", said a National Conference MLA. According to him, a large number of his party MLAs have the same feeling of disappointment, disillusionment and disempowerment.
