Over the 64 pages of this book are presented some 54 photographs taken by an amateur photographer in Sidi Bou Saïd, Tunisia.
Each image offers an opportunity to share in the joyfulness of a moment when time seems to have stood still before the lens of this passionate amateur, who photographed innumerable handsome boys encountered at the beach, young men who it seemed needed little coaxing in order to come and exhibit themselves in the man’s bachelor apartment.
The erotic tone of the scenes, where nudity is the rule, is heightened by the intimate nature of the surroundings: the pictures were taken in the very bedroom of the apartment, strewn with familiar objects and personal effects. The contrast between the bookcases and refined paintings of the intellectual gentleman and the lascivious abandon of the boys, as they drape themselves over his couch in provocative poses, is quite striking.
“May Beetle” Sergey Sovkov
A painting about a moment of focused attention — when a small detail becomes the centre of an entire world. The figure, the surrounding space, and the discovered may beetle come together in a quiet scene of observation, memory, and inner presence.
