Q: Why are waits at emergency rooms so long?
A: Because the rest of the healthcare system is failing.
The patient did everything right, but the healthcare system did them so so so wrong.
🧵…
They call their PCP, but can’t get an appointment. So they turn to the ER.
They call their specialist, but the call line (automated, no human to respond) says go to the ER.
They try to pick up their new medicine, but it’s 3x their monthly rent $ and they already work 3 minimum wage jobs…so they turn to the ER to get a dose of medicine.
They try to get their imaging done, but can’t get the prior auth approved. So they come to the ER to get it.
Their employer won’t let them take a sick day without a work note (and the ER is the only thing open they can get into TODAY).
They need to see their doctor in the clinic, but can’t afford to take time off work to go, much less arrange childcare, and the ER is the only thing open when all those conditions sync up.
They lost their job and now have no insurance and can’t see their doctors anyways. So they come to the ER.
The list goes on and on and on…
Healthcare reform is not about healthcare — it’s about economics, corporate greed, lobby dollars, transportation, housing, politics/policy, culture, and more…
@ravenscimaven@UGAExtension When AMMENDING soil (yes @auntie_illy !) a ratio of 2-3parts soil : 1part compost works well. I use compost-amended soil for vegetable and flower gardens. #composting
(I learned everything I know from @UGAExtension)
@ravenscimaven When you’re adding food/whatever to the composter, you want a 1:1 mix of good nitrogen sources (food scraps, coffee grounds) and good carbon sources (shredded paper, dried leaves, cardboard egg cartons). #composting

This Pride Month I will remember the LGBT+ holocaust victims.
Prisoners were given identification badges with one of them being a pink triangle to identify gay men and queer people.
After concentration camps were liberated, those with a pink triangle were sent to Germany prison
@pedsmd2b@elle_gayar There are good days and bad. As someone who has days when I could have written that tweet myself, can recommend:
- Finding a good counselor/therapist #BetterHelp
- Move your body every day (walking, yoga, hiit, it all counts)
- Journaling
- Taking mental health days off work
even if people are using drugs to stay focused and curb the anxiety from their jobs, isn’t that more of a testament to the stressful and unsustainable culture that comes along with being a modern day working professional who wants to be high performing?
Today is Red Dress Day. It is a day when we honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls & gender diverse people. We remember & uplift them. We support their loved ones. We recognize this disproportionate violence as a national tragedy. We advocate for change. #MMIWG2S
Hey @latimes - yes John and I used to be married. We are now friends and share a wonderful son together. In this context I am not an “ex wife,” I am a veteran journalist with decades of experience who worked hard for this role. Do better please.
The tradition of applying henna for Eid celebrations dates back centuries & is deeply rooted in Muslim culture. The art of henna has been practiced in South Asia, Africa & the Middle East for over 5000 years & it originally comes from Egypt #EidMubarak
A thread on henna & Eid…
Patients have no idea.
You can get cursed out, told you’re a horrible doctor, or spend 30 minutes offering support to a devastated patient.
Then leave those emotions behind for the patient next door.
Under appreciated skill and stressor.
Don’t walk into the trap.
This is about a nation where guns are so easily accessible and so poorly regulated that we’ve had more mass shootings in 2023 than we’ve had total days.
It’s still the guns, and it has been since Sandy Hook.
Today’s school shooting in Nashville was the 129th mass shooting in the U.S. so far in 2023.
As a pastor, I understand praying for those impacted by this tragedy — I’m praying for them.
As an activist and a legislator, I understand that we must take action.
