#CaboVerde strong showing at #WorldCup reminds me of seeing their legend, Cesária Évora, then 64, from one of the front rows at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver in March 2006.
She smoked on stage, despite city ban. Barefoot.

Keith Richards, on today’s NBC Sunday Today with Willie Geist, is asked what song the Stones are best at in concert.
“This is really tough … Midnight Rambler.”
That was the song I went away from my only Stones concert being the most wowed by.

Stumbled upon a #Prince concert from Utrecht, Netherlands from June 20, 1987, so one day off 39 years ago.
(Disc 7 & 8 of this 8-disc set).
Such a great artist.
Saw him once at the Orpheum in 2002 the but he was in a phase of largely not performing hits.

Great new track by @lolayounggg — From Down Here.
What a voice.
Song creeps up on you. It’s been in my head for the past few days. Good to have a new song do that.

Enjoying Paul McCartney’s The Boys of Dungeon Lane album.
He still has a good voice and his songwriting prowess shows through. His style may seem formulaic but he knows how to craft pop songs. It’s an art.

Another interesting bit: Tom: “People know things about you that maybe never happened because it’s been reproduced in countless books.”
Paul: “That’s very true” before discussing how many things in history in general may not be accurate.
“How can you have accurate history?”
Cool to hear Paul McCartney has a new album out, and that he’s interviewed on a fav podcast of mine: The Rest is History.
Curious bit includes him saying Shakespeare influenced his songwriting, via rhyming couplets.

Vancouver's Nettwerk Music Group nabs $300M investment from Create Music Group, and separately gets management buyout.
Ryan Beedie via Beedie Capital had been the largest shareholder. He said his company will remain a "significant shareholder."

It’s still January 8 where I am, so David Bowie would have been 79 years old today, had he lived.
On Saturday, it’ll be 10 years since he’s been gone.
A legend.
The world is lucky we had him for as long as we did.

The closing of the live version of "Sultans of Swing" is one of the most memorable moments in Dire Straits' history.
Recorded on "A Night in London" (1996), this performance features an instrumental ending of about three minutes that does not appear on the studio recording, and that's precisely where the magic happens.
Incredible how much better concert bootlegs are now, compared with decades ago.
Great 2.5-hour show by Paul McCartney last weekend (October 4) in Vegas. Hard to believe he is 83.

Enjoying #FarmAid
Interesting, though, how … seasoned the closing acts are:
#JohnMellencamp (73); #BobDylan (84); #NeilYoung (79); and coming up, #WillieNelson (92).
Impressive performances.
Notable as I can’t imagine such an old finale happening decades ago. #CNN
Nice also to see disco icon Gloria Gaynor has a new EP album – on the heels of her being named as one of this year’s honourees of the Kennedy Center Honors

A cappella versions of well-known songs are always interesting.
Was listening to ‘70s disco, and seasonal songs.
Came across this version of Earth Wind & Fire’s September.

Great to see Ryan and Cindy Beedie's Stanley Park concert, with bands such as Def Leppard, hit a record high donation level of $2.5M for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank
