An unprecedented decision: The NC State Board of Education's Independent Interscholastic Athletic Appeals Board has overturned the viral disqualification of Mallard Creek track star Nyan Brown in the NCHSAA 8A state championship meet.
Mallard Creek is now the co-8A state champion with Jordan High School.
The NCHSAAβs Board of Directors convened for an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning to confirm the decision, which was passed down from the Athletic Appeals Board.

Mallard Creekβs Nyan Brown said this, in a statement on social media.
βWhile I am disappointed in the final decision, I believe this moment creates an opportunity for a larger conversation within track and field about allowing young athletes to celebrate major accomplishments.β
πChampion. Nyan is an elite athlete on the national stage, but an even better young man off of it. A true champion and an outstanding student-athlete. #CreekSpeed@NCHSAA

Iβm not on Twitter/X much at all but Iβd like to pose a ?β¦ Why does @sydneymcguire27 have no offers? In the state chip game she scored the 3 ball to go into OT, assist to go up 2 in OT & 2 FTs with 7 sec left to go up 4 & seal the deal! TRUE PG!! No one is more deserving!
