He stands a little stiff, smiles at the wrong moments, and clearly has no idea what to do with his hands.

It’s one of the least polished CEO appearances you will ever see. A man who built the entire factory now standing next to the people who bought the cars, just trying to get the human part right.

The online version of him is intense and larger than life. The person in the room is still figuring out how to stand there and look normal.

When he talks about the people who supported Tesla, he specifically names the worst years. The times the company was close to dying and belief required real conviction.

You can tell he means it. The people who stayed through those periods still matter to him.

Most founders move on and polish the story. He still points back to the ones who didn’t leave.
